I have always had an interest in amateur radio. Now that I am at least semi retired the Technician Class may be the way to go into it. Can anyone provide a couple of frequencies of repeaters where I could actually listen in and see what I think. Like everyone else "ham" radio meant talking to different places in the world. I realize this isn't possible with Technician license. I guess I am wondering what is possible and what type of distance (range) is available?
Many thanks,
Gampawayne

Gampawayne,

Getting ur tech class license is the way togo. There are alot of mountain top repeaters out here. 6meters, 1.25m (220Band), 2m (144MHz), and 70cm (440MHz). I'm on the 440band freq is 444.650 Tone 131.8 WA7HTJ repeater. 2meter is a very busy band, try 147.080 tone 103.5; 145.330 tone 179.9 are some of the good freqs around here. Here are some links to look up for freqs test places.

Also Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) is a good place to get amateur gear around here. Orders over $100 dollors and call placed b4 13:00hrs, you get it the next day via UPS.

A good study book I have found to be good is, The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual. Which you can buy from HRO $25 dollors. or you might find it cheaper if you google it.

Good Luck and Welcome about if you choose to get into the hobby.
