A few weeks ago, several of us amateurs in SW WA heard some trucker pirate operators on 144.44 fm simplex. Their manner of speech was such that you knew they weren't hams. I wanted others in the Pac NW to be aware of this and maybe punch that frequency into their scanner or home 2m radio to listen in case they become active again. In 1997, we were able to ID two Canadian truckers doing the same thing, by actually sitting by the road and waiting for them to go by. They eventually received an "informal contact" by Industries Canada and were told they shouldn't be doing that. We didn't hear any more of that kind of activity until recently. I don't think these recent violators were Canadian.
The FCC has been taking action lately against various companies illegally using ham bands. If we can let a large enough group know that it is happening around us, maybe we can get lucky enough to have people that can find them and get hard physical ID info, company names, license numbers, etc., to give to the FCC
