From our local RACES board from N6NR:

Those of you who are on HF might be interested to know that tonight (2008/01/14) from 0500Z to 0900Z there will be a total eclipse of the sun on the opposite side of the planet from us. This means that the D-layer will dissipate, thus enabling some very interesting propagation (rare DX) possibilities on 40, 80, and 160. Warm up the kilowatt; life is too short…
