Picked up what seemed to be undercover Tacoma PD on 909.3375 about a stolen car today.

Anyone have any info on why they would use that freq????

Also picked up a control channel freq on 910.000 would that be an LTR system???????

Not likely. My experience with images is they usually ride on other "weak" transmissions (go up to hill top in Tacoma and scan the 2m band, if you get a somewhat faint transmission from a ham you will hear a pager...guaranteed. As soon as the "HAMS" transmission stops...the pager goes away, as soon as they key-up.....pager (most god damn annoying sound on this earth)

The signal that I heard was a s7 at least. No interference, clear as a bell. I almost felt like I had secretly heard a TAC-3 transmission. Way too much info was given out. More than the usual and the dispatcher and officer were talking in the normal police talk, but a few unproffesional things were said also.

I'm pretty much lost at this point. I don't think Tacoma is legally allowed to transmit on that freq, and why would they?? Anyone with the old 900mhz phones could have heard it!

Who knows?!?!?!?!

What freq does Nextel operate in? Could nextel gone into failsafe (unencrypted) mode?
For that matter, aren't cell phones pretty much out of the 800Mhz band now days?

Yeah, I remember way back when (1990 or so), having a modified scanner (pro-2004 I think) and listening to cell phones.
How quickly was I bored.

Your right!!!

When I got into this stuff a few years ago and found out I had 2 scanners I could mod...I was so excited, I did the mods and well........both of them sit and collect dust. Not really much replay value, heard one call, you've heard them all.

I was very excited about the discriminator mod I did to my rat shack pro-2022 so I could get in on the mdt action......havent used it since 3 hours after making it work

Enough already. It's an image of a local nextel on 864.3375 -- 45 Mhz lower and a mix of the new Tacoma system. Scannnrs are NOT professional radio receicers and they pick up all sorts of signals -- . Did you hear about the guy that told the FCC that he could hear a local FM broadcast station ( 104.7 ) on the local airport channel of 118.50. The FCC couldn't locate any problem. Turns out that the scanner was hearing an image of the STL (Studio transmitter link) on 948.00 Mhz on 118.50 Mhz (118.50 times 8 = 948.00 mhz)

NOPE SORRY.

I have more freqs.....too bad I left them at work....and another thing. I wanted to dispel the image thing since I get the feeling thats the easy way out.

In the last few days I used 3 different scanners. Same result...also enabled attn. Not working!!!! This is not an image!!!!

This cant even be a 2nd or 3rd harmonic in this universe.....or could it possibly be something thats not in the intercept database......no way!!!!!!!!

I will get the list I wrote down on Sunday. Maybe someone can put the freqs together and make some kind of trunk system out of it.

Good grief....

Its not Nextel phones. Nextel phones are TDM.

Its not the fundamental frequency. The clue here is the "910.000 mhz" control channel. 900mhz trunked radios use the standard FCC channels (935-940 mhz), not the 902-928 band.

3 scanners receive the same thing... ok... Then time for some math. Are these double-conversion or triple-conversion receivers ? Same IF frequencies ? Same side of injection ?

Since we are all speaking the truth - come on - listening to cell in the old days was great, ya sometimes boring, but usually you could find something fun or funny. My two fav's was the guy that kept denying to his crying girlfriend that he was having an affair and then call-waited to. yes, the girl he was having the affair with - then back to the girlfriend telling her is was a business call. My other fave was the Goodwill Games - lots of cell use - most famous was Armund Hammer.

I've never listened to cell myself, but it sure was fun back in the day. Cell trace agents doing the deed, cops, celebrities, drug deals galore, infidelity. Interesting listening indeed.

BTW, you can blame Mark for the thread hijack, not me.
