Normally, on 1520 khz AM in Kirkland near Totem Lake, you hear the road conditions. As of right now, it's broadcasting NOAA from 162.4250 MHZ. I didn't know this was allowed. What gives? --Deeply Shrouded & Quiet --KD7YVV, Kirkland, WA ARES/KCESAR |

About half the ones I hear, broadcast NOAA, especially east of the mtns. The one at George, was broadcasting ag info several years ago with parodies and all. That would seem to be in violation of 'travelers info' |

:D While I will have to agree that MOST TIS stations are pests -- the FCC rules allow TIS to broadcast "Road and weather conditions" and under the "Wartime clause" alot of agencies are using TIS as a CB to broadcast anything that they darn well want to. First FEMA cuts the use of the Ten Codes in favor of clear voice and then goes back to supporting "a standard code". Do you think that the FCC is going to even bother about the issue. The City of Long Beach, CA. uses its 810 Khz to broadcast boat races during the summer at a City Marine Stadium. It promotes the tiny 10 watter as the Emergency Communications link to the entire city of 450,000 persons in a 53 square mile area. RIGHT !!! You can't even hear the darn thing -- day or night. Thank God -- KGO has 50 KW. GET RID OF TIS. -- But its not illegal to broadcast NOAA or Ham radio on the broadcast channels. MTM |
