How does a talkgroup = a modulation scheme?

(hint, it does not)

Can't believe I'm saying this, but he actually does have a valid point.

Phase II systems can operate in phase I if even one radio affiliated to a specific talkgroup isn't TDMA capable.

So then what does this mean:

Unfortunately, Phase 2 is not backwards compatible with Phase 1 (due to the TDMA vs FDMA operation). This will make analog narrow-band FM the defacto "interoperability" mode for some time.

I think it just depends on if the system is truly Phase 2 or a Phase 1 + Phase 2 implementation.

The system will allow a phase I radio to affiliate as Phase I and then drag a Phase II talkgroup down to Phase I.

So if you have a PSR6 or a 396 you'll get to hear the sounds of encrypted comms

Depends on how the system is set up.

Most of the systems I know, will have a separate FDMA and TDMA TGs, the FDMA tallkgroups aren't active until an FDMA radio affiliates, normally.

Getting some light traffic on this system as of today. TGID 7 is active. Sounds like the primary PCT dispatch channel.

I'm listening on my 536HP but haven't confirmed it's Phase 2. It sounds like it but am trying to confirm somehow...

UPDATE: My PSR800 says it's still in P25 Phase 1 mode.

Uh....Phase II requires the implementation of Phase I in the radios due the fact that there is no phase II for simplex operations; it needs a timing reference so phase I still works...

Announcement: it appears that PCSO is now on the new system and are using Phase II P25 talkgroups.
