So, over the past week I've heard multiple preprogrammed messages coming across TAC9, which say 'contact wave alarm at' XYZ address.. Last one was 4211 boulevard rd se in oly, which appears to be a single family home that was recently sold.

Each time they respond code3, set up a perimeter, and go on restricted.

It's obviously some sort of automated system run by the county/city as it broadcasts the canned message ON TAC9.

Based on the priority response (Code3, perimeter, K9,etc), it seems to be of great importance.

The only thing I can think of, would be like an alarm for an important building, or possibly a house arrest bracelet system.

I found this on a Alarm System PDF on the City of Olympia Website:

"16.46.180 Exceptions
The provisions of this Chapter shall not apply to temporary alarm systems used by the Department or other public law enforcement agencies for investigative or protective purposes (e.g., VARDA, WAVE or similar systems)."

Sounds like its something the city runs for special purposes at certain locations?

Update: Apparently VARDA stands for "Voice-activated radio-dispatched alarm" so I am guessing WAVE is another form of that?

My first thought was that it would be a 'safe house' alarm, or something similar.... but I thought that too out there... :-p

Sounds like the old VARDA alarms SPD used.

Basically, this is an alarm that the PD sets up themselves, and it's "reporting" metod is to transmit directly on a radio channel, as opposed to dialing an alarm center, waiting for the call to come through, etc...

Use of this style of alarm is at the discretion of the PD, and reserved for situations where the PD wants immediate report.

Sounds like the alarm that a local 3 letter fed agency used as an alarm system.
Years ago I heard an activation on their frequency and soon the local PD freq came on dispatching units to the 3 letter agency office. It was on a weekend during non business hours. :D

We used to have one these at a place I worked...About the size of a suitcase with a radio antenna stuck out the side. Initially, it transmitted to another radio setup somewhere else, then the weenies changed it to transmit on dispatch (testing was HILARIOUS). Good idea for when you want immediate notification, like QOR said, and don't want to deal with a wired alarm, or want transportability (we moved ours several times in a month).

Bunnery definition for the under-fives

They had the "big guns" (as my girlfriend calls them) and a county K9 at that Wave alarm yesterday. An Olympian officer explained them to me when we had them installed at a past job. We were having trouble with people stealing fuel from our company vehicles so they put one of these wave alarms under some leaves. Suspect steps on it and the alarm is broadcast. Worked really well and prompted a very fast response.
