Some years ago I got a lot of entertainment out of listening to the air craft directing patrol cars to speeders when they were working in my area. However I don't hear them anymore, where have they taken the frequency to?

With the new BC996XT I should be able to hear them, unless it's encrypted - and I see no reason why it should be. Of course that means figuring out the programing.

WSP's air unit "Smokey" is very active in the Puget Sound area. Once or week or so there is a new video released to the news agencies of a good catch.

The most recent one I recall was of captain Phil's kid Jake, being taken in to custody. Here is the video

As far as programming, AFAIK they are on the normal WSP frequencies. Do a database/forum search. You will get more info than you need about the VHF frequencies that WSP uses.

Plug in all their car/car freqs & State. Occasionally LERN (the traditional VHF) might be used.
The old 159.075 isn't used any longer for air/car.

The emphasis activity is typically done an any assortment of alternate frequencies. You have to be scanning everything or listening for the air unit to call out it's intent to do emphasis on main air and ask for a car to volunteer to help. At that point they usually identify what the frequency of the mood is and switch.

In Yakima they use their Car-2-Car freq if it's only amongst WSP troops. If they're checking speed and running traps with other agencies, they'll use LERN. Last summer they were running a trap on I-82 with YPD Motor units and they all were on LERN. It's funny to listen to the WSP units formally introduce the YPD Motor units to the smokey unit over the air.

Thanks all,
I don't have all the frequencies programed in yet, waiting for the USB adapter to arrive. So far I have just put in the apparently most used frequencies to tide me over. Though I do have most of the LEARN.

According to WSP 'Car 2 - 155.460' is NOT ALLOWED for aircraft use in Eastern Washington.

Only 2 licensees in ID, a State Pen in N ID, and something around Soda Springs/Bannock County.

OR appears to make heavy use of it as what looks like a repeater input in the NE part of OR State, from Pendleton over to the ID border.

Perhaps this is what they are protecting?

it is, I have Car 2 programmed in and hear Pendleton input to OSP whenever I'm over there. Several other OSP inputs in E Oregon are on 155.460
