I have read through all the posts about trunking and have not picked up the clue phone yet. Can I get some help please. I live in Kitsap County and want to Listen to Seattle Fire. Do I just need to put in the control and the alternative control frequencies in my scanner or do I need to put ALL of them in? Anyone familiar enough to advise which set of control and alternatives I can use to pick SFD up? Thanks for any help.

Depends on the scanner. Older scanners need all the frequencies. Newer scanners can work with just the control and alternate control frequencies. Past there pick a site (Columbia Simulcast tends to work well) then put in the frequencies and SFD talkgroup ID's.

Yeah, it's a different world...

Our Wiki has some articles that should help. Start here:

I'm not sure what reception you'll get over there, but if you get a clean signal on the Seattle simulcast system, you should stick with that; it will have most of the traffic for SFD. Program the control channels for that site (see the database, search 800 MHz for "3d1c").

I suggest letting your scanner search all talkgroups so you get a feel for what's out there, and then lock out the ones you don't like as you go along. (You should still program the TGs into the scanner so it shows you the names instead of numbers... )

I don't know what scanner you have, but the problem with putting in control channel, is that they might change the control channel. that'swhy I like to program the whole trunck system in to the radio so if they do change the control channel,I can still listen tothe trunk system
