I ran into a couple of ex-Edmonds Firefighters today, yes Ex! Edmonds Fire merged with Fire District 1. They were wearing there new patches and had smiles on there face when I asked them how they liked there new work schedule and Contract.

I'm not sure if you will notice anything different as far as scanning goes.

SCFD 1 is the biggest Fire Department in the county and when SCFD 7 finely merges it will give them 7 more stations. It's not a matter of if 7 will merge it is when.

Hard to believe 1 & 7 will merge. The times are changing. When I was a resident at District 7 there were really bad feelings between the 2 departments. We used to call them Everett Jr. Firefighters. Guess time heals all... Hope it all turns out well. I still have people there I know.

As far I as I remember and that's going on 20 years, it was 7 & 11 that had some issues. 1 and 7 have gotten along.

7 has had some major changes since you left! Your right times are changing. We now have 7 fully staffed stations with Career Firefighters and have only 2 Residents left and 3 Volunteers. And when they are gone they will not be replaced. We have close to 100 Paid Firefighters and I believe we only had 14 to 17 when you were there.

Yeah. I remember when I started with Dist 11 and was learning the "politics". The paid guys were not big fans of Dist 7 for one reason or the other. I don't recall the real grunt of the issue. But as the years went by the tension seemed to ease.

FireDawg89 reminded me of the staffing at 11 when I joined.

Station 1 (now 11) 3 people total. At night, 18:00 to 06:00 it was two paid and 1 "sleeper" as we called it.

Station 2 (now 12) 2 people total. At night, 18:00 to 06:00 it was one paid and 1 "sleeper".

Station 3 (now 13) 2 people total. At night, 18:00 to 06:00 one paid and maybe one sleeper. It just depended on if three volunteers signed up for that day. Most of use did not like to work that station because it hardly got any calls. If no one signed up then the station would have just one paid person and would have to wait for a volunteer if that station got a call.

Hard to believe that the whole district was covered by six people total on shift. By the time I left the dept we had Medics. That ended the medic mutual aid with Everett but started a new contract with Muk.

Enough ranting......

How will the Lynwwood annexation (if it goes through) affect Sno-1? Also, judging from my conversations with my firefighter friends who works for Lynnwood, is that Sno-1 thinks their "shit" don't stink, and that they want to call all the shots.

Of course this is coming from a Lynnwood guy, and I'm sure there's a flip side to any disdain between the two departments.

As a South KC guy, I'm not in tune with all the haps in Sno county.

Also, is Everett Fire kind of like how Seattle Fire is in King County? Meaning, that they essentially do their own thing, and have little to no interaction with neighboring departments?

Well if the annex happened, Lynnwood would get a real large chunk of unincorporated Snohomish County. Not sure how they would take all of that one with the current resources. Lynnwood only has one dedicated medic unit, M15. But the automatic mutual aid in sno county almost guarantees a medic from somewhere if needed.

I would think Lynnwood would have to add on a new station sometime if it happens. Interesting thing about it, Dist 1 is building a new station at 156th and Hwy 99 which as far as I can tell would put the new station within the proposed annex area.

As far as Everett. Yup they do there own thing. They have there own talk groups they are dispatched on that are not shared. And they have annexed small chunks of land here and there over the years. Last station that was added was 7 down by Silver Lake.

Here is the Herald article that has the proposed annexed area

Everett Fire USED to be the big boys on the block. The First Department in the County with a 4th platoon. Fire District 7 was the first Fire Department in the County with Medics! More and more Departments in the County now have a 4th Platoon. With District 1 having 11 Stations and another being built Everett Fire is definitely not the big boys on the block any longer. I know of 3 Everett FF who left District 7 who have stated that if they only knew what District 7 has become they would not have left.

Can you imagine the Department if Lynnwood, District 7, Mukilteeo, and Paine Field merged with District 1?

Good to see the continued path towards regionalization, as I am a firm believer in a regional delivery method for fire/ems. However, I'm not sure how big is too big. A Sno 1/7 consolodation/merger would be a HUGE department.

I'm hopeful that my department will move towards regionalization in South King County. South King Fire and Rescue has a lot going on, and it would cool to be a part of that (for a variety of reasons). My department is doing great, however a future partnership with our neighbors in So. King would be pretty neat to see.

In due time I suppose. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to see most of South King County merged/consolodated/RFA'd by the end of the decade.
