I had a request to find out what makes a DNR Type 1, 2 or 3 attack team. I'm still getting a full explanation, but an excerpt I found from the web sheds a little light:

"Incident management teams are categorized as either Type 1, 2 or 3. Type 3 teams manage less complex fires. A Type 3 team is staffed with 6-8 people and manages incidents with typically 50-100 people involved in the response. Due to the smaller size of Type 3 teams, they can often mobilize and respond faster than Type 1 or 2 teams. The smaller team size also helps to reduce costs.

By comparison, a Type 1 team can have more than 75 members and handles the most complex incidents managing more than 1,000 firefighters and support staff."

As you continue to learn more about the Wildland Firefighting typing of teams you will also learn that this pertains to equipment as well. Type 1, 2, 3 brush trucks and engines and everything else.
