It sounds like either last night or this morning, SPD has switched over to some new system.

Officers are joking with dispatch about having to look up the proper MIR for an incident. They seem to be giving two letters followed by a number. Is there a listing somewhere for these new (or differently formatted) MIRs?

Also, there may have been some kind of software upgrade to the "MDCs" - have I got that right? What the heck does MDC stand for, anyway? They don't seem to be working very well, and everybody just had to re-log in again.

If this has already been addressed in another post, I apologize. Can someone give me a link to any previous conversation on this topic?

KD7SMX - thanks for the link! This last sentence may be the key: "Early next month, SPD plans to kick off phase two of SPIDER: electronic dispatching."

The timing would be right, because the article you pointed to was posted on May 20th and today is June 4th.

I'm sure it's related. I don't have a TV and had completely missed that story!

Thanks again!

- Silver

I have a terrible habit of trolling the web. Glad it helped someone. :|

MDC - Mobile Data Computer. Interchangeable wth MDT - Mobile Data Terminal.

I'm purely making an (arguably) educated guess but MDT seemed to be used in reference to the stand alone terminal systems designed solely for running names, call tracking and etc from in a vehicle (circa early 90s, ya know the black screens with green text). MDC seems to be what replaced MDT when laptops or other Windows based PCs came to fruition in vehicles.

But ya, the Spicy Tortilla is absolutely correct. MDT is to MDC as Cell Phone is to Mobile Phone.

I thought I was just going deaf. The two terms seem to be used interchangeably.

Thanks so much for the tips!

BTW - I heard one dispatcher this morning say "Yippie Skippy." I'm not sure that I'm familiar with that code. ;-)
