SBound I-5 this evening, a cab/chassis Rig that was generically marked "Ambulance", no other markings. US Govt license plate.

VHF 1/4 wave, and a shorter stub (couoldn't tell much more)

Any ideas who this would be?

May have been from one of the military bases. They use very generic markings and have gov't plates.

Naval Station Everett, Fire Station 29 in the Snohomish County Numbering system has a BLS Aid Car, and Lewis McChord Joint Military installation has ALS cars at Madigen Hospital. To service McChord and Lewis and civilians if you are in an MVA on I-5 in their area.

Ft Lewis and McChord don't start joining until Jan 2010.

Can't say for Mcchord, but when I worked at Lewis the FD went off base on about half their calls.
Their equipment was marked up well.

N7QOR, what was the cross on I-5?

If it had orange trim, it probably was a VA ambulance. They have a couple at the American Lake facility in Lakewood. Probably returning from taking someone from there to the Seattle VA hospital (Usually the VA calls a private ambulance for this, but sometimes the company they contract with doesn't have anything available.)

This color is not just VA it is your basic Fed color AMB. Fairchild AFB has 2 and Madigan has at least 2.

I can confirm these are indeed used at the Various Mil. Bases. I was at Bangor Naval on Weds doing some work and saw a couple on base. white/orange trim with govt. plates. The markings as to unit 8) # and ID was in small letters on rear door low near the rear step bumper... 8)
