Active surveillance operation.

Interestingly, they have a GPS device on the car they're tailing.
I think they placed it during the evening.
It was quiet for a while, when the car started moving one of the units was quite obviously watching GPS on a screen.

Commented "there seems to be a bit of a delay..."

Any idea how they are transmitting tracking info?

there are about 100 major vendors that provide tracking for vehicles like this. Here is a list of just two that I have seen in use in my arena, however this by no means properly covers the companies or the solutions provided there are as many choices here as cell phone plans for how to do this. This is HUGE in the construction area where large equipment gets lost or stolen easily.

There is also much smaller versions that will mag mount to a car.
There is also more consumer driven units for watching your kids or own card.
There is also ability to tack software into a smartphone so it will update its location for you. (and free ways to do it as well with google maps)
All of the units work on a basic principle gather GPS and Upload to a server. Higher end units use TX back satellites etc most of the affordable units use Cellular.

Think APRS for commercial.

I didn't want to discuss details during ongoing ops the other night, however now that it is done, they were chasing 1 of 2 identical twin dirtbags, and before the night was over they did a full SWAT call out to take the guy down.

One of the primary detectives' cell died, so there was much more detail over the air than normal, pretty fascinating.

One of them was hiding in the trees across the street from the house. Kinda like in the movies, only real.

The identical twins part sucked for the officers running the mission. ("Is it <person a> or is it <person b> ?") Fingerprints solved that one, but added another hour to the operation.

On Fed Way TG's I heard a unit asking about another one of theirs who was called up on a SWAT (I'm guessing this one). They were told he was "off for the night" Went till about 1:30AM. Long day for a few of those guys!

nice, i set record on all night but didn't get anything, I wasn't sure if I got the audio hooked up the next morning so I was bummed i missed something - sounds like it was good.

yea I was also surprised with the amount of data they had on this burg, address house info etc it was kind fun to watch google maps as they called out where they were going. as its a fresh case as well i didnt post much details.
