At the INW meeting we went around the table and told our favorite frequencies. I think it would be fun to ask again but on the board and share what you like to listen to. I will start with my five. You don't have to limit to five. There are a lot of frequencies out there and may not realize what they are or that they are even there.

LERN 155.370 *They aren't active most of the time but when things go down, you will most likely hear it
MARS 155.190 *here. KC Guardian helicopters hang out here on MARS
Airlift NW 155.295 *If you flying to the hospital then your in serious trouble
US Border patrol 163.625 and 163.675. They are on P25 digital. Just something different to listen to that is digital.
WSP Sno Co. 155.650 I live in Sno Co. so......

You mean 155.655 for the WSP in Snohomish County ??? Mine are 150.875 - GT Towing - West Seattle, 151.655, 151.895, 151.925 and 151.955 -- Business channels. 155.58 + 154.68 WSP King County, 462.675 and 462.575 GMRS in Seattle area. So I have a few more than 5.

Gee, that 151.895 must be a very busy channel. And my favorite -- all time worst tone is 136.5. Best -- any tone that I am using at the time.

My current Spokane mix in no particular order:
453.7250 (97.4) R Eastern State Hospital- Medical Lake KNNN241 (Animal House 'Food Fight!' type action)
463.00000 (179.9) R MEDCOM 1/Wheers (Repeats lots of Westside A/L-NW Traffic)
462.97500 (88.5) R Medstar Ops Primary (Not much 'big' happens regionally that they don't go)
460.72500 (203.5) R United Airlines Ramp Ops GEG (An old Personal Favorite)
156.24000 (141.3) R Deer Park Public Works/Plow (These guys are a great listen)

To be completely forthright and an unapologetic tease, my absolute favorites are two unlicensed channels used by two Whiman/Stevens/Kootenai/Spokane area govt activity's. Search is a wonderful thing, it is my friend.

One is a really great channel. So good in fact, I have dedicated a Saber and port off the Stridsburg to guard it 24/7. These guys are the best, they talk about everyone and everything. Nothing is sacred, nothing is too ribald, no hold is barred:

Their bosses' wifes butt is apparently absolutely amazing- they did an hour and a half on it a week or so ago. A hilarious conversation of many in the past couple of years. I will not cough up anymore details publicly but if you have found it, PM me with the agency, freq and tone and we can compare notes.

As it is unlicensed, I fear publication would quickly dry up this splendid bit of listening. No freq, tone, agency- no info- hate to be the Spokane frequency nazi- I am not the only one to find it surely (whos Shirley?) but I am not going to be the one to ruin it.

Regards,
Mike

The freqs I monitor as of late is PSE at 153-154 Mhz. We seem to be prone to power outages (especially at this time of the year!) The lingo takes some getting use to, but it's fun to predict when the power is coming back on... ;)

My 5:

#5 Washington Square Mall Security (Tigard, OR): When my company does inventory at an store, its always funny hearing them react when they find out there is people in the mall at 12 AM. Plus I want to catch their supervisor bad mouth us as he has been known to hate our company because we go into "HIS MALL" at night.

#4 Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) on AAR 21: They now use that channel for the Albany dispatcher since now they have a signaling system on a portion of their track. Always fun to hear them screw up while filling out paperwork (such as track warrants).

#3 123.45: Always a good frequency here; I've been hearing some commercial pilots talking on it lately.

#2 McMinnville Flight Service Station (122.45): Most of the time its pliots changing their flight plan or getting a new breifing, but I have been catching some interesting callsigns on their lately such as the corporate jet for Nike (its surprisingly NIKE).

#1 The store where I am inventorying of the day: Now most of you guys think most retail stores might sound boring but you would be surprised what sillyness you can hear.

can we say fav band allocations?

1- FRS, I live in a highly family area FRS is by far the best fun
2- obvious trunking's but to be good, any city public work and brodcast's and schools trunk ID they are always having some crazy mess and they arnt serious on the radio always.
3- 150/450 commercial radio on good days (4th of july haloween, or just any time after midnight)
4- CB radio, its not dead get yer 11m up in a tree and wait for rain or closed pass
5- wireless video, people dont think anyone actually watches this

more because this was fun to look in my scanner to find the fun stuff

6- UW police on any friday or non school night
7- hearing your 911 call on the city you called in
8- 80211 wireless with a laptop and driftnet
9- drive thru, but only when you freeband and inject fun.

can we also put RIP past?

old 450mhz police when they would pile up
police MDT (can you say AWESOME)
BABY monitors!!! (bonus points if you hear a martial fight)
cell and cordless phones, that was fun times listen around 5-7pm but you could never properly get full duplex!
ship to shore phone...just dont hear it any more
freebanding a CB and going to a RC car park and just keying up, you can still do this... i just lost the immaturity

Oh yeah drive-thrus are fun to listen to while in line.

On that subject; the few former fast food workers I know of don't realize their headsets are radios and of course can go out sometimes pretty far outside the parking lot. One of my coworkers used to work in a Wendy's and was mortified when I demonstrated my scanner to him; because he realized somewhere there was a guy with a scanner who HEARD him bitching about customers.

Yes - I remember one drive-thru experience where a McDonald's manager fired an employee over the radio. The employee thought he was kidding, but apparently the manager fired him on the spot.

Needless to say, the employee shot back with some pretty vulgar language.

The funny part was that no one answered the next drive-thru customer for a good 5+ minutes.

The VHF and UHF ones--yes. The store I worked at could be received just outside the parking lot, but the puny transmitters wouldn't hit the repeater from the walk in downstairs. One employee claimed she left the headset on after she left and could still hear them at the grocery store a block away.
The Jack in the Box in north Auburn can be picked up 2+ miles away if you're high enough up.
The new 900 systems have a range of about 10 feet, give or take a few. Dunno about the range on the 2.4 systems

Mine....

154.2575 - Yakima County Fire Main. With 250+ portables in the county, you're bound to hear someones' little kid playing with their radio. There is a story going around from a guy with Naches Fire who was toned out to a call while he was out of the house. His little boy, knowing that that was daddy's fire radio, ran over to it picked it up, pushed the PTT and said "My Daddy's on his way."

151.925 - My work. Silliness all the time when the manager has left for the day.

156.015 - YPD Main. Some interesting calls now and then. "RP advised a male just took a vacuum cleaner off her back porch" is one I can recall....only in Yakima.

155.535 - YCSO "Eagle." Again, interesting calls now and again....and you guessed it, only in Yakima.

Fast Food's are good...then I know how long my wait is before I can get to the window. Plus I've learned how damned picky people are when ordering Starbucks.
