Is there a good way to determine whether a repeater is being used for a specific frequency in a specific area. For example, 154.235 is used by several of the fire districts in south Grays Harbor County. Even when near an incident the dispatcher can be heard but not the responder, whether mobile or using a hand radio. The frequency was received from a very reliable source and as indicated, the tone out and dispatch can be monitored. I have checked the Intercept Data Base using "repeater output" as one of the search criteria. There are no repeaters listed at all for that area. I have noted that an FCC database has been referenced several times. I don't know how to access this and don't know if it would be beneficial for this type of search. I monitor with a Bearcat 245XLT. It's quite possible that Grays Harbor uses remote bases and not repeaters since they have to share this freq. can you detect a tone? Cowlitz County uses this freq with a sub-audible of 156.7, it is repeated and both sides are heard. Their signal has a fairly large footprint to the north. |

I hear no tone, except of course for a tone out at initial dispatch. Other than that, nothing else is heard. When you refer to a tone, are you referring to a tone when the dispatch center activates a transmission? As an example, back in the 1970's with the sheriff's department whenever the dispatch transmit key was depressed it would emit a short tone and then the transmission would go through. Or is it another type of tone which would open a remote site or repeater? I had tried to ask the question in a general sense as I am sure the same question could be ask re other NW cities or counties and whether fire service or law enforcement. Wayne |

This is what the FCC Database says about the frequency: Under "Location", it only shows this one Fixed transmitter... SPOKANE & N MONTESANO STS WESTPORT, WA GRAYS HARBOR County 46-53-21.3 N, 124-06-18.6 W Power is 100W! |

TMF and everyone else, thank you. TMF, the location which you posted is the fire department for Westport and headquarters for South Beach EMS. South Beach EMS are publically employed Para-medics and are separate from Westport FD as they are funded as a district from four or five different Grays Harbor County and Pacific County fire districts. It was interesting this past weekend. We were down there at a state park and I could hear dispatch fine but not the units in the field. We went into Westport as they were having the 20th anniversay of South Beach EMS. I fielded the question to the Fire Chief. He said he though there was a repeater but wasn't sure, and didn't know the frequency. Someone checked with Grays Harbor Dispatch (although the location is at Spokane and Montesano streets in Westport) as they do the dispatching from their call center in Aberdeen. They didn't know of one. Anyway, to make a long story short, after we returned to the trailer, I was picking up both sides of the conversation as long as they were a reasonable distance from where we were. It made it much more interesting listening. I was also told by Westport FD that they expected frequencies to change in the future as the FCC wanted narrow band vs current.
