does anyone know if there will be a procession for the chief before the funeral or after and where it would start would like to pay my respect

Attendance Information for East Pierce Fire & Rescue LODD Memorial Service
Bonney Lake, WA - The following is information for fire departments who plan on attending the memorial service of East Pierce Fire & Rescue Fire Chief Dan Packer who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Chief Packer dedicated 27 years to the fire service, most recently serving 13 years as an exceptional leader of East Pierce Fire & Rescue. Our community lost a husband, father, grandfather, son, visionary and friend.

Service scheduled for fallen chief

Bonney Lake, WA - The memorial service for East Pierce Fire and Rescue Fire Chief Dan Packer has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at Christian Faith Center, located at 33645 20th Avenue South, in Federal Way. The public is invited to attend.

Packer died Saturday afternoon fighting a California wildfire.

Packer, 49, had been deployed Friday to the Panther Fire south of Happy Camp in Siskiyou County in northern California to assume a supervisory position in the firefighting effort. Packer is a member of a Washington State-based incident management team and is deployed to major incidents, most frequently, large wild land fires.

In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made at any Washington Mutual Bank under the Fire Chief Dan Packer Memorial Fund. Checks may also be mailed to: East Pierce Professional Firefighters at P.O. Box 7500, Bonney Lake, WA 98391.

East Pierce Fire and Rescue serves a population of more than 73,000 living in and around Bonney Lake, Sumner, Lake Tapps, the Ridge Communities, South Prairie, Wilkeson. The district covers approximately 142 square miles and protects residents from eleven stations - five staffed and six volunteer. All career and volunteer firefighters are also either paramedics or emergency medical technicians (EMTs), responding to fire, rescue and medical emergencies.

The funeral / memorial procession for Chief Packer will depart the Puyallup Fairgrounds at 11:30 AM and proceed eastbound on SR-512 then continue northbound on SR-167 where it will exit near the Supermall to continue westbound on SR-18 and exiting at Weyerhauser Way before arriving at the Christian Faith Center for the 2:00 PM services.

The top shot is the head of the larger procession crossing 167 at 15th st, enroute to 18 WB. The rest of the shots are from about an hour earlier, with the smaller procession coming through Sumner enroute to the Puyallup fairgrounds for staging. I didn't get any more pics of the larger one; busy saluting.

Almost forgot- escorts were using LERN, some FD units were coordinating on REDNET, DNR was using some simplex 151 freq (I didn't log it, sue me), and someone was yakking encrypted on 163.100. This last may have been one of the Fort Lewis or McChord ARFF units; there were several. Come to think of it, there were also a bunch of NPS and USFS rigs.

Sorry I didn't note it, but it wasn't the Common freq; it was one of the new narrowband ones.
