The family and I took a trip to Allyn, WA today to see my grandparents. I didn't drive so it left me plenty of time to sit in the back seat and play with 2 scanners. These two scanners were a BR330 with stock antenna and a Pro-97 with the RS 800MHz antenna. The 97 was my main scanner; the 330 was mostly for Close Call, since it does it much better than the 97.

King County/Valley Com has a repeater in Port Orchard. I have confirmed this is operational. The usual 851.8125 control channel and probably the same voice channels (I didn't check them). I scanned in Open mode and the usuals popped up... KCPD & FWPD seemed to come up most frequently. I know it was the Port Orchard repeater I was getting; because I confirmed it as Site #006 at about 47.474479, -122.697335 and any other repeater wouldn't reach that far. Call me paranoid, but I've never seen any talk about the Port Orchard repeater, so I didn't know if it was actually active. I gotta say, it was pretty cool being 50 miles away from home and listening to the action going on around home.

154.37 PL 229.1 Dispatching. PL 88.5 dispatching. Seems to be the primary channel for Port Orchard Fire Dept. Simplex. Dispatcher clears with callsign but says it too fast to understand. Clearest one I understood was KZM851 but that's not a valid callsign.

467.8125 PL 67 Unknown business in Belfair. Heard that "Susan is at lunch" followed by "OK" and a few seconds later "Paint Line 1, Paint Line 1" It's probably the McLendon's store (no relation to the McLendon Hardware stores in King/Pierce county).

155.4 PL67. Couldn't understand anything through the static. I had it labeled as Mason County Medic One but I can't find that license again so maybe it never existed...

152.0075 Paging, no PL. Labeled as Mason General Hospital, but can't find license on this one either. I recall the license stated that MGH was in Allyn, and it's not.

461.15 CW ID for something, but I don't speak Morse and didn't have a recorder connected.

453.675 PL 100. Unknown PD; Victor units, but somtimes identified themselves as T#V##. Can't find this one in ULS either.

460.225 PL 114.8. Confirmed MCSO Primary.

461.0375 DPL 026. Not Mason county, but Gig Harbor Target. Picked it up on I-5 when it landed on one of the "business band" frequencies.

There must be something wrong with ULS. This might be the time when scheduled downtime occurs, but I have a bookmar that takes me directly to the advanced search page so I don't get the downtime notices.

154.370 is also Olympia Fire, 88.5. They share the freq with Ketchup County for a while longer

"154.370 is also Olympia Fire, 88.5. They share the freq with Ketchup County for a while longer"... This isnt going away anytime soon as a Kitsap Freq either.

467.8125 PL 67 Yep its the hardware store you speak of. Are you sure theres not a relation to the other McLendon stores? Theres one in Port Orchard also.

461.15 This is all over the place but is licensed to Mason General so may have been them you were hearing...

The King/Pierce locations: http://www.mclendons.com/storeinfo.asp

From what I recall, the stores West of the Sound are owned/operated by the cousin (I think) of the owner/operator of the West side. Also, I can't remember, but I think the stores on the West side feature the 's at the end of the name whereas the ones over here don't.

Well try this on for size. The Port Orchard site that you refer to is known as "View Park". ( NAD 27 : 47-28-49 N By 122-32-02 W ). Kitsap County has another site at "Wicks Lake" (47-27-16 N By 122-42-40 W - NAD 27).

Keep in mind that all GPS receivers use the USGS "WGS84" and "NAD83". Be sure to convert or use the "NAD27" co-ordinates. 99% of all FCC license data is in NAD27. You will have to convert from one to another -- to search the FCC files -- in order to locate any valid FCC license or Site. --- It's like talking to a Fireman at a fire -- in Police Jargon. The fireman only knows other "Fire" talk or Jargon.

A point having a given latitude and longitude in NAD27 may be displaced on the order of many tens of meters from another point having the identical latitude and longitude in NAD83. So it is important to specify the datum along with the coordinates. The North American Datum of 1927 is defined by the latitude and longitude of an initial point (Meades Ranch in Kansas), the direction of a line between this point and a specified second point, and two dimensions that define the spheroid. The North American Datum of 1983 is based on a newer defined spheroid (GRS80); it is an Earth-centered datum having no initial point or initial direction.

Convert here: http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/nadcon.prl

Now I know why the marker is slightly off when I copy/paste from ULS to Google Maps. Thanks MTM!

The difference from NAD27 to NAD83 is only about 3 to 4 seconds. That's about 250 to 300 feet. Some GPS receivers are only 10 feet off. Very very good ones - are less than 3 feet off. A good GPS handheld should be able to convert from NAD83 to NAD27. Read all of the instructions for your GPS unit. MTM

All the stuff we submit is nad83... What they do with it.....

I was in the area of Wicks Lake today but with all the trees around Id have to be out doing some hiking to see it... Late for work so that will have to happen another day...

Its amazing though what a couple of miles will do to portable talk in. And all the bands have their issues. Im a UHF fan for that reason. Not so directional like 800 but better portable performance than VHF..

With 800mHz the line of site from the View Park site would give King co. important coverage from the coastline over there.
