I've been listening to SnoHawk lately and have heard some codes I'm not familiar with - they'll add when they go for fuel or change locations a code like "Alpha 20" or "Bravo 10". What are these? Thanks!

Bunnery definition for the under-fives

Snohawk is a Hughs OH-6 helicopter, tail number N13SD.

This page has an image of it in it's new paint scheme after it was repaired following a 2002 crash.

I am not sure if the UH-1 "Huey" also uses the Snohawk callsign, maybe Snohawk 2? It's tail number is N815SC. The huey was upgraded with a rescue hoist in 2007.

The Alpha, and Bravo stuff are dispatch codes on it's status, and/or how long it will take to get launched.

I dont recall the codes meanings yet, but when I get back there from vacation I can update... Nothing Top Secret or anything. :wink:

The Huey used to be 815 for the radio call, then went to Air2. I have done Rapp, and Short-haul training out of it several times. I helped unload the H-mod's when the SAR Team got them as surpluss out of Alaska.

I think the old B-mod ( 816) went back down to South America, and no clue what became of the little Bell.

I believe the "not specified" airworthiness has to do with the aircraft being ex military and the difference between military maintenance procedures and records, and FAA compliant maintenance procedures and records. If I remember correctly, ex-mil aircraft are restricted to certain types of operations like forestry/fire fighting and law enforcement.

Funny thing on that note.

I was reading some SOM's on SAR, and there are several memo's from the forestry service about how their employees are not authorized to board, or take flight on any military aircraft inless life and death, or without a prior written OK.
