I will soon be moving (Woodinville to Newcastle) in late Feb. I was curious to find out if i will possibly need to program in different site freqs for better reception. I will be in Newcastle,(above I-405) actually with a view of Lake washington. I'm guessing this will open up a whole new world as far as scanning goes. Looking forward to it. So will I have to program in new site feqs to better recieve the TRS systems? I know I will be able to (hopefully) have much better Seattle system scanning. Thanks for any info and is anyone gonna be my new neighbor in this area?

You're moving to my old stomping grounds. I use to live in Newport Hills (just north of Newcastle) so I know the area pretty well.

You'll have no probs hitting the main EPSCA trunk. If you're getting a house, then be sure to add a nice external antenna ... that will help pull in Seattle and the Port if you choose to listen to them.

I live in the NW corner of Newcastle, just blocks south of Newport Hills.. I don't have a problem receiving anything, Seattle, EPSCA, KC-VC Simo are all fine, I can even receive the court house, north, and apple cove IR sites too. Plus the Port. My house is at about 400 msl which helps a little.

One thing EPSCA was going to do was build a new IR site at Newport Heights Elementary - blocks from here.. We even talked about it a long time ago here on the board. In fact, it's in the google earth map page on this board where all the 800 mhz sites are mapped (because it's licensed, of course...) but I've driven by there many times and it doesn't physically exist yet. And I haven't seen any construction either. Anybody know what happened to it?

I do have an outdoor antenna. I will have a "height" advantage as well being on the 3rd floor of our condo complex. Also the complex is on the side of the hills facing I-405 and Lake wa. I should have good Boeing Field listening as well. I can also see the New Seahawks Practice facilities. I guess I will have to just play with the systems once i get in and get set up. I'm thinking about getting some LMR 400 and maybe replacing my current antenna with a Diamond discone. Hmmmmm , The wheels are turning!

I use the R/S base scanner antenna (20-043) and it's really nice. It picks up everything! For the price, it's a great value. I just looked it up on their web site. The price has risen a bit since I bought mine. I think I paid around $60 for mine.

I just read the reviews on their site and I don't know what ppl are talking about. I've had mine for years and (if properly mounted) it will last thru snow, high winds, heavy rain and all the other weather we get around here. It seems quite strong and durable to me.

I live in Fairwood, just south of Newcastle. I'm up pretty high and can easily get all three KC simulcast systems. I also get Tacoma and the Port loud and clear. Sno County west comes in sorta scratchy. As far as VHF and UHF goes, since it's basically line of sight to Gold Mountain, everybody over on the Peninsula that has a site up there comes in really clear. WSP S. King is horrible. I'm sure it'll probably be the same in Newcastle.

You'll almost certainly be able to hear Pierce County West (155.640), since the main transmitter is on Gold Mountain. East (154.950) will probably come and go. Both are extraordinarily busy. You'll actually likely be able to hear some of the smaller cities as well, like Fife PD and Sumner PD. I get Tacoma's TRS in Fairwood.

You'll also be able to hear the dispatch end of the fire channels, but since most are simplex you probably won't hear the units in the field.
