Lots of units going to a house in the University District tonight. Is a swat team sometimes referred to as a "Clearing Unit?" The air was closed, two K-9 units were there by the time my ears perked up and I started to really listen, around 11:40PM. Officers kept saying "Two more shots fired" or "Another shot from inside the house," then finally one officer said "I have one in custody under control, we have recovered an assault rifle." I'm thinking, this isn't good. Then I hear something about "frat members" so now this is starting to really sound like something I'll be reading about tomorrow morning. Ick. Now they are clearing the rest of the floors. I heard dispatch say that there were four frat members in a locked room upstairs, and did they want them to come out yet. Second floor checks clear now. They're moving on to check some sort of sky-bridge? Anyone else hearing this? Can you fill in any blanks? |

Air re-opened just now at 12:03 AM. House and "annex" check clear. Containment units have been instructed to start looking for, and interviewing witnesses. They are trying to keep all the witnesses in one place. Just asked for the officer with the weapon to identify himself. He has it in his patrol car. Most of the responding units are Union, but it sounds like Nora 1 transported the suspect to the precinct, arriving at about 12:08. No mention of any carnage. No calls for medics. Just heard that Union 5 will be the primary for this incident. I still can't figure out the address. 23:34 hours was the time of the initial call. |

It was a frat boy target shooting in the basement of the frat house. I guess the dumbass didn't go home for Christmas. http://www.kirotv.com/news/14918369/detail.html |

Unbelievable. I just heard it on the radio. What a blazing idiot! Using an assault rifle for target practice in the basement of a frat house in the middle of the night. Do you think alcohol was a factor? This is why we need frat houses. To keep them all in one place. |

i wonder if "assault rifle" was an Ar15 style or if the media just saw a pimped out 22 and suggested that enemy #1 was in the basement. either way this is funny story Quote: This is why we need frat houses. To keep them all in one place.

I can see how you might think that, but an "assault rifle" is what the officer said he had recovered from the suspect. In retrospect, I think the arresting officer sounded disgusted when he radioed in that he had one in custody. I'll bet I know what he was thinking! |

just seems odd that a frat house basement would be set up to allow a assault round (thinking 223,30c,7x,5x) to be fired with out damaging the backstop (likely a concrete wall) which further drives home the insanity and stupidity of the stunt. |

What else is there to do when all your frat brothers are away for the holidays? The poor guy needs a scanner to pass the time. |

Off topic, if it was the 5.56, 62 grain, it surely will not penetrate the foundation. .50 cal will crumble one. I hope the University takes the appropriate action with this 'student'. That's my 2 ¢. |

Stupid yes.... I dont see why it should be illegal to shoot in your basement though, hell, I have had good times shooting rats inside buildings around the farm ( Yes I was very sure of my backstop) .... It is called "thinning" the population. Edited to add: Proud owner of several Evil Black Rifles. |
