So, anyone know who the Air-4 unit on LERN last night was? Around 2300, I noticed LERN had something going. Air-4 was using FLIR to look for someone associated with a stolen car. Ops were simplex, not over from 800 KC/VC, and sounded like they were right in the SR512/I-5 area. It wouldn't have been Guardian, as they would call themselves Guardian, and anyhow, Guardian-4 isn't a patrol-use helo, right? |

It could be one of the WSP "Air" unit up north, sounds like it anyway. I heard a news blurb the other day that one of the aircraft the WSP utilizes has been used a lot lately on Hwy 2 between Monroe and Sultan for road rage and could be deployed elsewhere in the Seattle area on a moments notice. Most if not all of their craft have FLIR cams. http://www.komotv.com/news/archive/4187721.html |

I highly suspect WSP is running the aircraft. Here in the Moses Lake area, we have 2 WSP aircraft stationed in Ephrata. They are Air 5 and Air 6. |

Air 4 is a WSP designator. Fixed wing. And they did in fact add FLIR. Probably a big thing for them. Wonder if it was surplus WA-Army Nat'l Guard stuff. Over here in Spokane County last Summer, the SO was flying around a piston engine helo. I wonder what the maintenance cost is on that unit. That reminds me.....anyone seen the utube helo over in the sandbox, night vision taking out some haji's? I would upload it here, but sheesh, I don't know how on this site. |

WSP Air 3 and Air 4 are Cessna 206H fixed wing aircraft and were purchased and equipped using money from a Federal Grant. Air 5-7 are Cessna 182's and as far as I know none of them have FLIR capability (yet). Air 3 and 4 are used for "routine" daytime traffic patrol and also patrolling Ferry Terminals/Vessels and other areas such as the various Navy facilities in the Puget Sound region. Air 3 and 4 have also been used to support "special" operations involving other agencies such as local police and sheriff departments. Something that WSP first started doing earlier this year was nighttime traffic patrols, mainly in Snohomish, King, and Pierce Counties. Several of the Seattle TV stations have video clips from some of these patrols. Here is a link to an article from 2006 that provides some basic info. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/271 ... red27.html Kerwin |

WSP AIR-3 operating above I-5 South of Bellingham on 154.935. Using FLIR and sending FLIR data to car on highway as well as verbal traffic info. |
