I am hearing a clicking (keying of mics) on all the frequencys (just Police ones only) weird even WSP
I thought it was just me until I heard the Bremerton Cencom Dispatch talk about it. Isnt this illegal?


Anyone else hearing it?

I heard the same thing on WSP North (155.580) when I was driving home this evening (~11:30 PM Friday). Was expecting to hear the dispatcher make a comment about it but it was never mentioned. It got so annoying that I finally had to turn the radio off.

It's a danger to everyone. To a police officer that might need assistance. It can delay or hinder emergency dispatching. It can cause a death. But most of all --- it causes professional radio engineers and radio techs from doing thier jobs. It makes every member of this group -- and everyone with a scanner "the bad guy". It takes away the trust -- between "scanner users" and the radio engineers. A lot of the information on this site -- comes directly from those engineers or techs -- that build and maintain those emergency communications systems. It makes them afaid to tell US anything. It hurts all of us. A 74 year old -- former HAM radio operator -- is now in jail -- for transmitting on local police and fire radio frequencies. Knock it off.

Same thing on 155.505 last night, during the storm activity. It sounded more automated then intentional....the clicking went on every 1 to 2 seconds for up to 15 seconds after the repeater dropped. I did not hear any "intentional interference" issues during either dispatch or field unit transmissions.

But it was irritating enough that I locked it out.

Does the state link their sites by microwave? If so, could the state microwave system be having some problems? I didn't hear any on-air complaints from field users.

(however, if they thought it was malicious they probably would not have said anything - so as not to encourage the malicious activity).

Can't the FCC do a locate of the transmitter? I think if the WSP calls them up, the FCC will be able to pinpoint within a relatively close proximity where the transmissions are coming from. Public safety interference is their highest priority.

Whoever's doing it will also be prosecuted federally, which means that they'll be going to prison for quite some time.

Since a lot of state patrol is now voted repeated systems if any link from a RX site to the main voter site drops for a moment it will vote and key up the TX . So if you have 6 chan with the voter shelves all at the same site and the remote rx links all in the same transport (microwave etc) and that transport drops for a moment you get 6 freq keying. The voter systems will drop a site offline but it normally takes 60 sec of continous outage from that site to have the voter take it out of service.

mine was last week for a few days on 154.77. It was a very loud (weird) tone. So loud, that I asumed it was 'offical' testing for some new digital thing.

I've noticed a few different repeaters coming up momentarily, including some I know have no links or remote control. My cases seem to correlate with the bad weather - wind, rain, and rime ice on the mountaintops. I suspect it's often just stray EM energy roaming around the repeater sites that's aggrevated by current conditions. (We're not getting skip, as far as I know!)
