HI folks, I will be moving to the area in mid to late summer. I was wondering if there is a big need right yet for digital capable scanner? I have a BC 780 and a RS Pro-95 and a BC 9000xlt I have monitored the vall comm and King co. systems before with a BC 245. I have recently noticed that some areas like Sno county are going dig. How soon till King or Vall comm go over to one? Thanks |

I believe all of the "digial" stuff in the King County System is encrypted, so a digital scanner won't help you there. Snohomish County is installing an 800mhz Motorola Smartzone System. Phase 1 is in place, and Phase 2 is being designed/constructed. The vast majority of the Sno County System will be analog. The few Digital TG's that exists will be encrypted. A digital scanner won't help here, either. And, I'm not aware of any significant APCO-25 systems in the Puget Sound area. So, bottom line - what you have now should serve you well in this area. To echo T68, anything that is P25 in Puget Sound is encrypted. Analog is all you need. |

:D Just a short note of information. While the Puget Sound area seems not to have any digital systems - Many of the local Police in Los Angeles County have or are in the process of change over from analog to digital. The San Francisco Bay area also has many local systems going digital - both encrypted or clear. Its not here yet - but just a matter of time. |

Those folks have $$$. King County would have to double the number of sites, as well as have the spectrum (No thanks to Canada) to go digital. It's not even a thought in the present 4.1 system. |
