I'm starting to see what appears to be 700/800mhz open coil antennas on cars in Dist 5

As seen here. Same general type:

http://www.kimatv.com/news/local/WSP-Ma ... 87275.html

Cars here are getting both 800 and VHF antennas and all 5/8ths waves are going away. I feel bad for the troops...those 5/8ths wave antennas are much better...

The IWN is actually a very slick system....lucky for WSP to get on such an agreement and even supplementing it with 700/800...yes I know bad for us listeners but they DO have access to one of the best VHF P25 trunking systems in the west!

They are not looking for gain in the antenna. They are looking for pattern. Gain isn't necessarily a desired characteristic of a multi site system.

Open coil verses something like a B8063.. Ill take the base loaded antenna for several reasons... http://www.tessco.com/products/displayP ... ventPage=1

But biggest problem I see is systems that are engineered without taking into account the mobiles... or when they are the mobiles are never built to the engineering standards or installed by some wannabe that has no clue that you cant just wing it...

The IWN is built for mobile and portable coverage though.

Mobile= anything that is not bolted down... Same thing... If I figure that your users should be using MT1500's (big radio big ground plane) on your analog system and then you show up with EX500's (Little radio little ground plane)... well-

But if your lucky enough to be on a system that has more than 80% portable inbound coverage in your area... Congrats!

You probably don't use a portable in your car if you have a mobile... If the mobile is installed incorrectly- you might have about the same coverage results as your portable.

I've had my Pro-106 hooked up to pro96com 24/7 for the past month and something interesting just popped up. I usually monitor the Seattle-North (170.9375, T-107) site as it seems to have the most activity and this just appeared:
Quote:
"01-2160","c",775.50625,805.50625,0"

A 700MHz site, usage is control only, with no hits. When I tune to the frequency however, I'm unable to pull a signal of any kind with any antenna.

Side note: I've logged about 172 TG's and 1363 radios if anyone wants to see the full pro96com files. All TG's are in the 13xxx range.

I'm also currently monitoring site 107 and not seeing that, nor are 108, 110 or 164 showing that as a neighbor anywhere.

BTW, site 107 is nowhere near North Seattle; it's in Kitsap County.
