Always wondered what 2 was as I've never heard it used on the ferry before - almost 30 years. Totally fits that they would move ops there. Is there a F4?

Last I remember WSF Channel 2 was 157.100 (22A).

On page 9 of the Washington State OSCCR Plan it reads "E. The use of OSCCR in special zones adjacent to the U.S.-Canada International Boundary is limited to transmitters with RF power output not to exceed 5 watts. (See appendix 3)"

When you see the map in appendix 3 (posted above by chpalmer), it shows the two zones. License KB81146 for 100-watt mobiles lists the radius distance as 50 miles from Victoria and Surrey. I'm not sure which of the many licenses cover the 5 watt operations, but there is a 5-watt base licensed in Kingston. Under license KOA436 there is a 100-watt base station licensed at Gold Mountain (also north of Line-A) on OSCCR.

In regards to narrow band conversions on OSCCR; the State backed off of their originally published deadline to move all OSCCR transmissions to narrowband. However, it will need to happen sometime this year. I suspect in the middle and later parts of this year we will see agencies running a mix of both narrow and wide band on shared channels such as OSCCR and LERN, but everybody will need to be done by the FCC mandated deadline of January 1, 2013. (From what I've experienced, mixing wide and narrow on one channel is far from ideal, but on the other hand it doesn't ruin communications in most circumstances.)

It should be an interesting year as we all get to watch the rush for narrow band (analog) conversions and see WSP move much of their operations to P25 (digital).

No traffic unit over here. That is their standard car now.

I hear them on OSCCR more than on 155.100 (Langley City channel).
