All of the posts are great ideas. However - they miss the point. One man's outlook -- on what the "system" should look like -- is the issue. There must be a leader -- to point the way - for the Police and Fire Chiefs -- to jump off the tall cliff. This idea is one persons idea -- to create a "Special" lasting memorial to his leadership. It has nothing to do - with being the correct system for Grant County or MACC. It matters more to the local citizens of Grant County that will have to pay for such un-needed upgrades, than to anyone else.

Yep- agreed ...

And sure you can go to other bands than your neighbors but then you open a whole new can of worms. And all those new tower sites you just had to build to make 800 work- Maintenance is gonna be expensive.

But looking forward maybe dual banding with $7000.00 portables is in their future ideas eh?!

Any re-location of MACC / Grant County -- to 800 Mhzs or 700 Mhz -- has nothing to do with radio coverage, need for additional radio spectrum or any other logical need. It is the "idea" of one person -- to glorify his own personal igo !!!

I wonder if you use

I can't tell you how many times I run into the question- "why aren't we going (insert frequency here) by customers who have been given the sales pitch by (insert manufacturer here...) ( they didn't recognize that it was a sales pitch by a sales person...)...

and Add in "officer safety" or "encryption" into it plus "800mhz is the only way to do it."

... I'm picturing Dilbert board room meeting senario...

In the past I recall hearing MACC on Yakima CO disptach on the foot hills of the West part of the county or anywhere w/ a little eleveation. Bloody Annoying during summer fire season.

You are hearing that because Yakima County REFUSES to use PL on 154.190 and a few other frequencies. At least MACC has their stuff PL toned. Joey Weedin knows the Yakima frequency problems well.

I sure dont want to stray off patch -- or show my age -- but when the first VHF High band Fire channels were assigned -- it was done on a statewide -- checker board pattern -- using only 5 or 6 Fire frequencies -- statewide. One frequency per each county. 154.19, 154.43, 154.25 and 153.89 were the most often used. MACC has also used the fact that they have "outside" agency reception problems -- and the relocation to 800 mhz would solve that problem. It also would mean loss of any direct communications with any outside agency or county.

No i recall hearing some of the other guys. but MACC was soo busy.

MTM- you might be on to something there. Don't think it's too far off. The big flat open area they probalby get the same probelms if not worse (just guessing) that i was talking about earlier. The change is a big expense to the problem when i think a lot of alternatives that have been mentioned here are probably cheaper to do and will not be creating a interoperability problem with the rest of the surrounding counties.
