After the recent helicopter accident in Phoenix I heard an interview with one of the traffic reporters here in Seattle. He stated such an incident was unlikely to occur here. His reasoning was that there is a common radio frequency where the traffic reporters talked with each other. Can anyone share that frequency with the group.
Many thanks,
Gampawayne

Southern California (Los Angeles & Orange Counties) used this for Channel 5, 7, and 9 choppers all the time.. Every now and then, you would also hear CHP chatting with the news choppers.

:D Back the plane up and start over. Both "fixed wing" and "rotor" aircraft can and do have access to several radio systems. A common radio control unit is used to talk on as many as 4 different radios -- . News Copters can talk to the broadcast station on "RPU" radio channels -- assigned / licensed to the radio or TV station, as well as "airband" channels, like the "tower" channel and "unicom" channels. Most Airband radios have two or three selectable pre-sets, ( tower, unicom, emergency, etc. ) all controlled from a multi-select hand control. The pilot can talk on any channel -- just by flipping a button on the hand control switch. Each area uses a different "unicom" or "multicomm" channel -- even in Phoenix. 123.025, 123.05 and 123.075 are most common - followed by 122.75, 122.85 and 122.975. Every area of the USA has a common "unicom" or "multicomm" channel -- even in Phoenix.
