PC should hire someone -- like Grant County MACC has. NOT !!!! Almost ANY professional two-way radio sold since 1998 or so - can do narrow band. Building BIG radio systems --- even if NOT needed -- gives the "builders" a BIG ego and an even bigger pay check. The taxpayers -- get the shaft. Grant County has a population of LESS than 85,000 persons and 32 VHF radio channels for Law, Fire and EMS. Now they want to build a 6 frequency 800 mhz trunked system -- that will still be linked to VHF anyway -- OUCH !!!!!! Stick it to em.

Another city calling out the county.

Quote:
"Under the proposal, the county would collect the additional sales tax of one cent per $10 purchase, estimated to bring in approximately $11 per year."

Wow, at $11 per year it will take them about a million or so years for the tax increase to pay for the system. Not only that, it surprises me that the county generates only $11,000 per year in taxable sales revenue.

No tax on drug sales.

We're not talking about Yakima County here...

I called 911 while driving on I90 EB at about 130 about a semi who was on a collision path with whatever was in its way. Whether I got into KITTCOMM or MACC I'm not sure but I had to be answered, problem diagnosed and then transfered to WSP in Wenatchee before they put it out over the air. Kudos to WSP though because as soon as she hung up the phone I heard, "Ellensburg Local patrols..."

In Grant County, dispatchers working for MACC double as call takers and dispatchers. When I tested for MACC and sat in for an afternoon I noticed they are extremely efficient juggling both of these jobs.

Dispatchers or call takers or how a call is handled --- Dispatchers are NOT the problem. Every 911 PSAP is different and has its own protocal. -- Its the fact that the radio systems that they use -- are "OVER BUILT". Too costly and use to much spectrum to do the job. A good radio system does NOT need to be based on what it costs. Nor is it required or even good practise to toss away the old radio system and place all of the "eggs" into one new basket. Most Fire and EMS services work best on VHF. Mutual Aid works better on VHF. Spending alot of tax money -- on a new radio system is NOT the answer to building a good 911 radio dispatch center.

You're right Mike, the liberals will tell you it's the ergonomics of the chairs and desks that make it a good center.

And, in Columbia County, Oregon, IT IS... Been hearing EAS dispatches indicating some form of "911 trunk failure" and giving a ten-digit telephone number to use instead of 911 to report emergencies...

Many years ago -- (1978 or so) I tested to become a 911 dispatcher - for Seatlle PD. In the interview - a question about the large amount of officers requesting wants, warrents and plate checks came up. (SPD did NOT have in car MDT's at that time.) -- I told them that they should use the NEW UHF "F-2" and assign an operator just to run license plates and subjects -- so that they would not over-load the 4 Dispatch Channels. Two weeks later -- (F-2) was in use for wants and warrents. And thats when I became a Consultant and requested a fee. LOL
