I recently saw a MTS 2000 (mts2000) that was able to act as a receive only scanner for Seattle Fire. The channels matched the same as a fire radio but it couldn't transmit.

Does anyone know where I can find information on how to reprogram a MTS-2000 or if anyone has any experince with this please let me know!

Thanks!

Michael

Has anyone ever even seen this?
This is a radio that looks just like the normal radio the city of Seattle Fire/Police use but it only receives the frequencies and when you press the ptt it doesn't transmit but just gives an error tone.

Thanks!

If you look hard on this Forum I think this has been talked about in the past. When SFD first went to 800 MHz Trunking there were very few 800 Trunking scanners available or just coming out. Yes there were 800 MHz scanners. Seattle had some kind of law on their books that said citizens had the right to monitor public safety in Seattle. So you were able to go through the City of Seattle Radio Shop and if not purchase your Non transmit radio from them they would tell you how to order one and they would program it and ensure it would not transmit.
