I had to take a cab home from the airport over the weekend and the cabbie driving the Stita cab had his radio turned WAYYYYY up. (It was a bit obnoxious, as I'd been flying all day and just wanted to relax...)

Then, after listening, I was amazed... are they really using MODAT post-key for signaling? If it wasn't MODAT, it sounded a lot like it. :)

I was also suprised to hear voice traffic at all. Most cabs now use an MDT that squaks status messages back to dispatch.

Anyone?

This was a while ago, but sometime around 2000-2001 I flew up to seattle for work. I remember hearing some kind of 5-tone signalling on the taxi radio. I'd guess it was an ICOM or Vertex radio.

I can't remember which taxi co it was, but you've got me interested now.

Anyone know the freqs off hand?

Digging around the ULS site I found:

WPFM466 - STITA TAXI 452.400
WNYW247 - STITA TAXI 452.225

I'll leave a couple scanners on the freqs tonight. My comp will record anything that comes across.

I've been hearing what seems to be custodial staff on 452.400. I'm near Factoria so there might be a local Hotel or something of that nature.

It's confirmed.

I've heard several 5-tone signalling bursts on 452.4000. The freq is in use by several other companies though. Stita comes through pretty scratchy though.

Thanks Mike... It's cool that someone aside from Hamsexy guys and the sound mixer for COPS episodes still use MODAT. :)

Haha!

It's not Modat, but 5-tone. Pretty much the same, but MODAT is a 7-tone sequence. I miss my old 3000's and Astrosabers. They were always 'Dtat'd out hehe.

HA! My VHF AS3 is just a basic flash, so no Q351 for me.

(Although I have been known to have some MDC squakin' away on my regular old Saber III just to piss off certain OFs on a local repeater.)

OK, now that this thread has been hijacked...

Nothing like bumping a 3-year-old thread, but I've been picking up quite a bit of activity on that Stita channel. They're pretty active over here in Bellevue now that they lost their airport privileges.
