OK, a couple of dumb questions form someone who doesn't get to spend as much time in Seattle as they used to...

1) Is there actually anything radio-wise installed on the Space Needle? From the ground I don't see any antennas, other than that red tower thing that has the light on the top. Seems like it would be prime antenna real estate.

2) is the a common air traffic advisory frequency that the seaplanes and helicopters flying around downtown Seattle use? I've been watching Kenmore Air and other seaplanes coming and going from Lake Union this morning and was curious.

I think the Space Needle has too many restrictive covenants in place. This is why there is still nothing tall around it. It is also a private restaurant.

I listen to 130.3 for Kenmore Air.

Thanks - I figured that there was a reason for not much on the Space Needle...

I may still own a Decibel "dual stack" 8 over 8 bay UHF folded dipole antenna
that was used up there for what was originally a Telepage installation...
A pair of  UHF paging transmitters fed this monster.
Traced the feedline from one of the Purc 5000 boxes being removed up to the "spire" and noticed not one, but two feeders when we finally got the cables traced to the antenna... Moreover the cables were installed before the beginning of time and not much after the Needle was completed I would guess by the miles of CAT-5 and other stuff tied to the coax for support :bowrofl: So, on that day I didn't climb to the TOP of the Space needle, "But I could SEE IT FROM There", 40 feet up...

Probably a half-dozen other antennae installed about the spire. Couple years later the antenna came down when the other Purc was decommissioned.....

The CTAF for Lake Union and vicinity and perhaps also the Seattle Waterfront is 122.900.

And the "original" Kenmore Air facility at Kenmore CTAF is 122.700.
