I have not been able to hear anything from the UW Police department for quite some time and I am wondering if something may have changed.

I have these three Control Freqs. in my scanner for the bank that I have selected for the UW PD:
851.81250, 860.71250, and 868.77500

And I have the following Talk Groups:
9232, 9264, and 9296

I used to be able to listen to them all the time (even though they are real slow for a PD) I have a friend that is an officer with them and I sometimes like to listen in while he is working.

Thank you in advance if you are able to let me know if I am missing something new.

Keith in Renton

Try 868.175 (Seattle Simulcast) for the control channel. If I remember correctly, the UWPD talkgroups are homed on the Seattle system. Perhaps that is why you are not hearing them on King County sites.

I just added that Control Channel to my UW bank, so I will see if that helps me. There is a UW football game taking place right now so they should have more activity tonight.

I'll let you know if that helps me hear them again. Thanks!

You might want to make sure you are using that control channel exclusively for your UW bank. If you have multiple control channels then there is a possibility the scanner will lock onto the wrong one.

Their TAC changed a while back... I think. I never listened enough to figure out exactly what was going on. Henry units are Harborview units.

OK.... Great. Adding #868.1750 to my Control Channels AND locking out the other Freqs. from my UW bank did allow me to start to pick up the UW again... I'll have to wait for the next time my buddy is working to "follow along" with his night.

Nother question here from the Scanner Nubie "me" (and electronic/radio idiot) So, if I have the same following Control Channels 851.81250, 860.71250, and 868.77500 (or what I believe are CC's) for my Seattle PD bank and my King County bank, should I lock out (or delete) some of the ones that I shouldn't need to use for those banks to get better performance???

I am using an older Radio Shack PRO-95 from here in the Renton Highlands and for the most part pick up many transmissions from the Seattle PD and the KC SO though some are a bit scratchy sometimes. (Seattle East, Seattle North or KC North)

I guess what I am asking is... IS there a searchable site that will show me the Control Channels that I would need to use simular to the information that I was able to get for the Talk Groups?

Thanks for helping me out.

Here is a list of control channels for King County, Seattle, and EPSCA:

http://interceptradio.com/s.php?sfreq=1&ssort=1&spl=3D1C&cfreq=1&sfq=CONTROL&z=1

Typically I put in just the simulcast for whatever part of the system I'm interested in listening to. The other sites are handy if you are in an area which the simulcast doesn't cover well.

THANKS TONS RICH.....

Now, I want you to think WAY back to when you were in 1st Grade in school.... Now that your back in 1st Grade... What does EPSCA stand for?
ALSO - Does VALLEY COM (Kent, Renton, Tukwila) follow the same Talk Groups as the ones you posted? I have been able to follow them, but was wondering if I should be using different Control Channels to get a bit better reception from my home in the Renton Highlands or my office in south Tukwila.

Should I just keep the Control Channel Freq. that is closest to my home (comes in the clearest) unlocked and then keep the "secondary" CC locked on my handheld scanner incase I roam to other areas and wish to continue to listen?

I usually like to listen to the following in the order of:
Renton, Kent, Tukwila PD
South and West Seattle PD
SW & SE King County SO
Federal Way, Auburn, Des Monies, etc...

Rembember, YOU are still in 1st Grade so remember to "fill me in" in that same age bracket when you start to use "big" words. :D

EPSCA = Eastside Public Safety Communications Agency

You will find Kirkland/Redmond/Bellevue on EPSCA.

Valleycom (Renton/Tukwila/Kent/Auburn, etc) is on King County.

and of course Seattle is on Seattle.

So pick your control channel accordingly.

Keep in mind that it is possible to hear (for example) Seattle Police on an EPSCA site. This can happen if a unit is out of range of the Seattle sites. Because of this there is no guarantee the Seattle traffic will ALWAYS be available on the EPSCA site. Also, only certain talkgroups are allowed to roam between the systems. This is why its best to match the control channel to the agency you are listening to. Your experience with the UWPD was a great example of this.

Its usually best to program both the control channel and the secondary/alternate control channel, as sometimes the control information may move from one to the other.

EPSCA never has any local Seattle-specific radio communications. You must use 868.175 for UW.

EDIT: With the exception of the main Seattle PD / Fire channels. Basically, anything from < 14000 in TGID is rare.

Pouser, to answer your question. Program in different search banks for each area you want to monitor.

For example, if you mainly monitor south KC, then program in 868.525 (CC for KC Trunk) and then keep 868.175 in as a back-up CC.
