In the instance of Fire talking directly to the Ambulances, I agree. Not needed. Nor would I support it. (Neither would anyone else.)

SnoPAC in Everett seems quite happy to have Rural/Metro and AMR 190 and 191 on their radio system. They require all ambulances moving priority through the city for any reason to notify them, as well as en-route, on-scene, transporting, and arrived at hospital for fire department transports. SnoCom has us report en-route and on-scene with them as well, although they don't care about what we do with the patient or if we run with flashy lights and shouting "Woo woo!" into the PA system.

When I lived back in New York, the ambulance service where I was had 155.715 in their rigs which was the designated EMS "Unit to Unit" channel for on-scene coordination. I've only heard it in use when there's a incident with 4 or more EMS units.

WTF?

I wouldn't want school admin on PD talkgroups..... maybe a tac channel, or rx only..

'Umm... we need some help down here.... we have a kid who's refusing to get on the bus'

'Last unit 10-9?'

'I need the police, @ Robert Smith High School, can we get some help to get this kid on the bus?'

bad, bad idea...

I would respectfully disagree with you. Just because they have it DOESNT mean they will use it for petty stuff like making some little shit get on a school bus. Think of it like this:

"Law Dispatch from John J High School."

"Unit Calling, Go ahead."

"Would you have a few units respond up here to the high school, as we have a large fight breaking out in our parking lot on the south side of the school subjects wearing blue and red."

"Receive, I'll have a few units enroute."

"Also dispatch, they're now running north towards the soccer field getting into cars plates on the cars are 334-XDK, 567-FGH and 234-FOH also now shots have been fired."

"Dispatch received was anybody hurt?."

"Dispatch, yes, we have 4 people down on the soccer field."

"Dispatch received I'll also send and ambulance."

Not only did dispatch receive that information but all units responding also received that information thus making less work for the dispatcher who doesn't have to broadcast that information over the radio. The officers coming into the area can hear the information, keep an eye out for those cars and know exactly where to go once they get on scene.

Doing it like this has also now shortened the time wasted by somebody calling into 911 and saying somebody is hurt at the high school and the 911 call taker having to ascertain all of the normal details. They will know where the patient is and that they are likely down from gunshot wounds by listening to the school admin calling it in, directions, vehicle descriptions and all.

Even though most of the units here do have the talkgroup to talk to AMR directly, it's pretty rare they do. Most simply ask for an AMB to be dispatched once they get the short. I hear them talking to AMR only when they're wondering where their AMB is at....

Somehow I have a feeling that non-trained personnel using a radio would use it like non-trained person:
"OK, now they're running towards the soccer field. They're getting into some cars and HOLY **** SOMEBODY FIRED A GUN!"

HA! LOL!

However it just clicked in my mind and it all makes sense now...The school in question had a school shooting about a decade ago. It must have come out in debriefing exercises that it is vital to have a link with law enforcement officers...

I'll stop :horse:.
