For listening to trunk 800mhz stuff?

This is pretty darn good for trunking: http://www.dpdproductions.com/page_scanner.html#uhflp

The 700-1000 UHF LP antenna.

For VHF and Trunk, you may want to look at the 118-1000 LP version.

yea if your not going to go for the discone then yagi but you will need to choose your point or rotate it. Otherwise I use the 2.99 800mhz antenna stuck to the top of a steel shed, in renton I get Tacoma and Everett Trunk on 3 bucks.

biggest problem is that you said VHF, which means your back on the discone or a all band yagi go buy the elk antenna for 2m 440 then you also have a great HAM antenna if you ever get there.

New roof new mounts so I'm about to invest in two Grove Scannerbeams unless something better comes up here. I've had three over the years and they work great, not too directional. I have two in the attic, both pointed to Seattle and do a great and work fine off the front or back. I will be putting one on a rotor and will get back to you on performance.
