Has anyone heard of any departments or dispatch centers switching to digital in the state? I know this is ask every once in a while, but things change. What was true last month may have changed.

I haven't heard of any police departments in WA state going digital, or any plans too. The only law enforcement agency that is digital that I know of in the state is the State Patrol.

Washington State Patrol is NOT digital! Still wide band analog. Troopers here in Eastern Washington still have a fair share of Kenwood portables and mobiles that are NOT P25 capable.

The only thing digital around here that PS is concerned is only federal (FPS, USBP, IWN, Army, Air force, the corrections center in SeaTac and such). There are some digital on 800 MHz but it is fully encrypted.

We have digital up here in the northern part of Whatcom County.
The cities of Blaine, Lynden & Sumas are all now P25.
They are dispatched by the Border Patrol at Blaine who is also P25. BRRRRRRRRAT

over the radio waves (IP is just a addressable format which was created for the "internet" as common definition, however IP can be used on any medium/layer1)

http://www.inoteksystems.com/index.php? ... &Itemid=66

*I just googled the technology for information education this is not related to any system that may or may not be part of any WA system

My WSP contacts inform me that they have NO plans on going digital. They are having problems (lack of money) just completing the build-out -- to full Statewide duplex-repeater operations.

yea as I said "was to go to" I guess it depends on your WSP contacts, they were looking at the system 1.5 years ago I can assure you. To what degree looking vs planning I cant tell you.

In the last day or so I have heard that the Benton County Washington dispatch center in either Prosser or Kennewick is in the process of switching to digital. I also heard that they hope to have it in service around the end of the year. Apparently Uncle Sam is funding most of it due to "geographic security concerns." I do not have a way to verify this.

Can anyone advise if Umatilla County, Oregon is dispatched from this center as well?

Can anyone verify this information?

I have now also found a reference from KNDU (21 Feb 2009) indicating the radio system is in transition from analog to digital.

Umatilla Co has their own center, they are putting a patch between the two systems on Gogatha and Sulishi Butte. Umatilla is in a different situation for funding and will put a tax on the ballot soon to keep the system intact. Benton Co has planned for a switch over to P25 by fall. It's an $11 million upgrade with $9 million funded so far. It is supposed to have 2 encrytpted talk groups for swat, etc.

Umatilla Co has 2 PSAP's the other serves the Milton Freewater area on VHF.

Benton Co also has 2 PSAP's, SouthEast COMM (Richland) and Prosser, both on the same trunked system

According to the information in the Benon County section of this site, it indicates that Prosser PD as well as BCFD # 6 (Plymouth/Patterson) are dispatched from the Prosser PSAP. What about BCFD #3 which is shown to be in Prosser?

Do both dispatch centers transmit 800mhz and VHF. VHF is shown as the channel for some of the fire districts. I presume the mobile units are have radios with VHF/UHF to speak with their counterparts at Grandview or Sunnyside PD as well as the Yakima County Shieiff's Dept. Is this correct?

They use LERN or something similar. At one time prior to 800mhz. lower valley police was 155.010 including Prosser and others. 156.150 used to be a central basin law net. Not sure what happened to it.

I have conflicting info on who dispatches BC 3 and others like Prosser Memorial and their medic program which serves Grandview being dispatched by Prosser PD. I believe they still are dispatched by Prosser. #6 I believe is also Prosser PD dispatched. KFD serves the medical end of that county, at least Plymouth. it is part of Kennewick Ambulance district.

Yes, both systems are 800 and VHF. Prosser medics and BCFD 3 still have simulcasting on VHF and 800, but it is primarily VHF. BCFD#6 is all VHF Some fire freqs have changed recently in regards to tx tone and such. Prosser PD is 800.

SE COMM --the rest of Benton Co is 800 for law and public works-PUD
Fire migrated back to VHF Dec 2007. There are no more talk groups for fire on 800mhz in east Benton Co.

I'm trying to get over there next week.
