The point I was trying to make is that with the right tools, tell your friend to take the ticket to court and fight it. And for that matter, this is a forum to discuss radios and the like, not debate how the laws read or what to do when you've been accused of breaking them.

I digress....and have reminded myself.

Apparently people got hung up on the first part of my story.....sorry all.

I hope I have the 3 explanations correctly as it's been a while since I've seen a citation

According to this little slip of paper SPD left on my windshield this afternoon:
1) "I agree that I committed the parking infraction and choose to pay the monetary penalty"
2) "I request a hearing to explain the circumstances"
3) "I request a hearing to contest the infraction. I did not commit the infraction."

#3 - Would be your best choice and the officers love it too, because they get paid to come in to testify and in some cases it's overtime for them.

Don't group us all together...some may enjoy it, but I certainly don't. Especially on overtime. I have a life, and 40 hrs a week of this stuff is enough for me.

Just remember folks - there are always two sides of a story. None of us were there. The stories represented here are only one side if it. There are ALWAYS details that just don't seem to make it through.

If the driver was just minding his own business, talking on his 2m radio, and the Gestapo-like officer flagged him over and cited him for that - then there are are several good legal points that can be brought out in court that would get an easy dismissal. Yea, too bad that a court date had to be wasted on it - but that's the system.

I will certainly try to educate my co-workers about the finer details of RCW 46.61.667. They should know better - but, perhaps something else was happening there that none of us are aware of. At this point, I'll give my co-worker the benefit of the doubt.

I'm done with this....moving onto a real radio topic.

But, why was my cousin arrested ? He was just walking down the road doing nothing and 6 cops pulled up and sprayed him with pepper spray when he wasn't doing anything. Why?"

I would assume because he a-salted someone and they were just being good chefs and adding pepper to the seasoning. This is a common trick to make food taste better.

 (I just had to reply to that post not necessarily keep this thread going.)

My favorite answer to that stuff was always something like "Well, your cousin is a lying dirtbag. You should have better taste in family members."

Followed closely by:

"No, Sarge, I don't recall saying anything like that. I guess my micro-recorder is malfunctioning again, the damn thing didn't record anything during that contact."

I think we should all thank AT for taking one for the team.
Now we have an affirmative answer to that question.

But really, there is no need to go so far in obtaining the answer.
A best guess would suffice.

Actually some jerk parked behind my building that shouldn't be parking there. Or you could say I wanted to find out if SPD actually patrolled a certain section of a street. Turns out they do, but I got a deal: 6.5 hours of parking for only $35! Normally that amount of parking is available for only $13, but you have to go back and feed the meter every hour, which is hard to do in class. Actually, I think I want to go Nick's theory--I just wanted to know what my options were.

you know in everett if you pay the ticket that day at the court house they take 75% off so a 20$ fine is reduced to 5$. I got stuck in a spot for work a while back and got 3 parking tickets. Total 15$ for all day parking. I gladly paid the 75% off and then expense the 15$ fine as my daily expenses. Very cool wish all city's did that great way to get cash instantly and keep the litigation to a minimum

Flashing the RCW in his face isn't going to fix your problem. I have not met any officer who would take kindly to reciting code back at him. So be weary traveler of telling another how to do their job better.

I'm ganna have to disagree here.. If a cops stops you and he doesn't know how to do his job, it's always worth while to help him out and recite the code. at worse he's ganna write you up anyway.. and at best he realizes his mistake.

I've recited code to cops on 4 occasions (not 46.61.667). Never once were they happy, never once did I get a ticket. One even scratched his head and thanked me. Most fake a code 1 call and leave me in the dust on the side of the road without issuing me a ticket.
