As I am sure many of you know that Chief Packer, the chief of East Pierce Fire and Rescue has perished in a wildland fire in California. His body has been recovered and crews from East Pierce are on the way to California to escort his body back.

Andy Palmer was a great kid that always had a smile on his face and left many sad friends in town. RIP

I am not sure. I know that his service will be next week sometime in Federal Way. I met Chief Packer back in 1995 when he first became Chief of Bonney Lake Fire Department.

In other news the Deputy Chief has been appointed interim Chief of East Pierce.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 7th at 2:00 PM. The public is welcome to attend the services at Christian Faith Center located at 33645 20th Ave. S in Federal Way.

I had the pleasure of working with Chief Packer when he was a firefighter in Burien, he taught me a lot about being a leader and the core values of life with both the fire service and family. When my father passed away, Chief Packer drove all the way from Lake Tapps to the North Highline area to pay his condolences to my family......now its my turn to return the gift.

R.I.P Chief........you will not be forgotten
