A disassembled rifle, in a case, is dropped off at a school and that one, plus 3 other nearby schools are placed in "lockdown". Jesus, maybe I should be building an ark. |

The way things are going people have lost their minds. Clackamas was probably the biggest tragidy I have ever heard about. I still believe we all shout have the right to bare arms but I feel anything that carries bullets should be registered. People should be held accountable. If you have kids in your home guns should be locked up or use a gun lock. Clackamas. A man with a hockey mask on just shooting at everything unloading on innocent people is just beyond me. What made this guy want to kill and hurt innocent peopl? People like him will have our rites taken away. God help us all. |

With regard to the school shootings in Connecticut today maybe we should be concerned about guns in schools. Over reacting will for sure be the case from now on. |

I am sure we will see over reaction, especially from the politicians both locally and on the Federal level. One thing I have noted with consistency from the media today is the guns used in this school tragedy, is that both guns were legally purchased and registered. Just not to the shooter, but to his victim mother. Any proposals which are presented (and I am sure there will be some) need to be carefully researched and thought out. The question is, can politicians actually do this or will we see "knee jerk" reactions. It will be interesting to watch and see what happens. |

Agreed. Rather than addressing the root cause of the problem, the media and politicians like to focus on the firearm which is nothing more than the tool he chose to use for this horrid act. It is interesting how their response differs greatly in situations where a person with similar intent drives a vehicle into a crowd of people. Its unfortunate such hipocrisy is tolerated, however this is what happens when a large amount of the population lives in blissful ignorance. |

Not entirely wasted when you consider where Executive Orders come from, or worse yet who appoints (among other things) the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and Secretary of the Treasury (subject to Senate confirmation). You know, the people who had something to do with hurting the lower/middle class by destroying our dollar, injecting too much liquidity into the housing market, and driving our national debt into the stratosphere. Congress can share some of the debt blame though. |

There's a law prohibiting homicide, but killers still kill. |

Jim wrote: Outlaw spoons! They can make you FAT!!! Huh? I must not be to hip on this slang, what's "spoons"? Is "Fat" something else than a term for obese? :?: Stricter gun control won't help situations such as this. Perhaps more locked doors and tighter access points. |

He's talking along the lines of the old line "outlaw pencils, since they cause spelling errors". Gun control, registration and licensing are old ideas, IMHO. If a criminal or potential criminal wants a gun, they're gonna get one or make one, outlawed or not. To break the law is in a criminal's job description. Cars and drivers are licensed, but people drive without a license all the time, don't they? A registration or license is simply a piece of paper, a lot like a restraining order, and those don't always work, do they? /rant |

Got it. I was way off context. Like "Jim spoons, they make you fat". Or something. |
