OK, with all the stuff flying in the air in the upper 160's + 170's today, I stumbled across something different.

137.44MHz had some very strong digital data on it. Never heard it before, and I am less than 1/2 mile from the POTUS landing area in Hillsboro.

Data didn't seem to be moving, even with a +20dB attenuator didn't kill it. Slowly pulling the BNC off the R-20 without the ATT on the carrier still jumped across the gap.

More JWIN channels active, some P25 and a lot of 'other' intermittent digital stuff. Been a while since POTUS was here and I had a chance to dial around, last time was DVP, I think that has gone the way of the Do-do.

that is the digital signal they use to track everyone that gets flu shots. sort of like a people radar. Its easy to determine tax payers vs non tax payers that way.

An upgrade to the system will soon allow for party preference.

Interesting. Right in the middle of satellite telemetry band.

It's nice to see 'old' stuff getting used again.

Well, now that it is all over here, some thoughts...

Looking for that infamous "War Waggon" that looks like a porcupine, didnt see it this time, but have some good photos of the ol' 1 ton Chevy Van they used to have in Bush's day.

I monitored that 137.44MHz again, went off and on a few times. I need to correct my first comment about it not being mobile, it did very in strength this second time I monitored it. Don't know if it is part of the motorcade or not, but its transmissions didn't seem to coincide with anything, like vehicle movement.

I admit, when the motorcade was in sight, I was outside with the camera and didn't see if the signal pegged the R-20's receiver. :(

Maybe in another 12 years when I see them next time.

So did the signal disappear after POTUS left the area or is it still coming and going? Inquiring minds want to know... :-)

Well, yes it is still there.

Yesterday it was so strong, like I said, I thought it was something from the movements in the area. But listening to it today it was a little weaker and not on as much.

Doing a little research on the net,

"A signal has also been received on around 137.44MHz during a pass of the FM21-28 group. Naming convention FM denotes "Flight Model". Signal reception Assuming that you are not an Orbcomm subscriber "listening" on an Orbcomm handheld subscriber unit, you will hear a beating noise with a period of approximately one second. The signal is very strong and may be heard on a simple receiver with a "rubber-duckie" or whip antenna."

This explains the strong signal I was receiving on a 1/4 wave VHF spike. It is very narrow bandwidth, and the data is not easily heard in the white noise background.

So my guess is anyone in N.A. should be able to dial this up and listen in on it.

Also, Friday, I only heard two brief comms in the clear, nothing interesting.
