Update 28-Oct:
They got a ride in a Fairchild hopper-chopper.
Shot an Elk and smoked it to eat.
Avery is remote, but 40 miles south of is very.

Avery, ID is the former railroad town and division point of the Milwaukee Road where electrification continued east to Harlowton,MT

I drove it in 1993, pretty neat to go through the tunnels, ended up on a FS road that was being redone by the largest CAT I've ever seen. We waited and then drove out on I-90 somewhere in MT.

There is some great flyfishing up there! I used to fish at least once a year from Red Ives Ranger station south.
