GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- A Pierce County sheriff's deputy opened fire at a home in Gig Harbor, fatally wounding his father-in-law on Friday evening.

Myron, 49, is said to be an 11-year veteran of the force, according to law enforcement. Troyer said the deputy was on medical leave for 18 months for an undisclosed condition, but was cleared to return to work three months ago.
