it appears that this wasn't a "school shooting" but a crazy who just happened to kill at a school - not that its any better but at least it wasn't students that were fired or killed. (not that any of this is any good) just the media is using "school shooting" sort of improper for a headline. |

The teacher was a special ed teacher. The shooter she had known since college. He won't be shooting anyone anymore thanks to the Pierce County sheriff deputy. |

as I said from the info that I had and in my opinion it was a shooting -at- at school not a "school shooting" if you look at media "facts" (i quote because who knows about the word fact) the suspect shot the victim at the time you would go to work and likely deliberately with no children around. (however an assumption on my part) Quote: Spokesman Dan Voelpel says a female special education teacher was shot at about 7:35 a.m. at Birney Elementary School before children arrived. When Crimesider called Birney Elementry School, the woman who answered said no children were present at the school when the shooting took place. Police spokesman Mark Fulghum told the paper the suspect and the victim knew each other. quotes from media sources http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/02/26 ... 6729.shtml traditionally and arguably by pop-definition school shooting implies a intruder or student acting against a mass of student body (or facility) for a message or cause. This to my knowledge was a shooter with a target of his "x-love-interest" who just shot her at a location he knew where she would be ... the school ... then the shooter fled the scene after committing his crime. So as much as this would be a "mall shooting" yes it would be a "school shooting" as it took place at the school. but again when you say "mall shooting" it typically implies that a gunman or multiple took fire with multiple or single weapons at multiple people killing the targets and innocent because they are affiliated with the target. what about a "grocery store shooting" or "bus stop shooting" again multiple people saying... the teacher who was shot at school, or the bus driver who was shot on the bus implies a single act not related to "mass-" in the case of this shooting in question no target but the individual was selected or considered (in the information I have seen) so anywhoo I think I have :horse: as well de-huminized any emotion or compassion related to this poor lady and her family so lets hope google isnt active on this post. regardless of my opinions or the medias, its was senseless thoughtless and horrible and my prayers go out to her family to find peace and understanding in the mess. |

You're definition of a 'school shooting' is very opinionated. The definition of a 'school shooting' is an act of gun violence that occurs in and on an educational institution. If an angry boyfriend came to the UW and gunned down his former girlfriend, by you're definition that would not be a school shooting. If a boy was gunned down in the court yard of his school after haven been chased down on school grounds by an stranger, by you're definition that would not be a school shooting. This was VERY clearly a school shooting. A teacher was gunned down at her school by a crazy stalker who waited outside of the school for 2 hours. The amount of victims and/or guns or shooters is not apart of the definition of a 'school shooting'. |

Jim wrote: Oh Boy! I could run into problem in a car shooting... hrm |
