as this wasn't the typical battle royal between good and evil, wouldn't it be less - prosper on the sick and wrong of society to not release that audio?

IMO in a case where its a long drawn out issue, I can understand the review of the audio. but it sounds like this guy was just murdered in cold blood, wouldn't the audio replay from the disp of officer down just add insult to tragic death?

No it doesn't add insult to injury. It gives more insight into how tragic this was. No more than showing an apartment complex on fire or a tsunami wave.

I'm not arguing here (im not trying to turn this into a crazy thread) I understand your point, just debating mine (which is my opinion as I said I appreciate and understand yours) - but is a dead officer due to the horribleness of society need any more incite? I mean if it played out like the media put, the radio traffic will only have "officer down" as they wouldn't have had any time to request backup for shots fired. as the shots had been fired.

Unlike the media making revenue off viewers for fires and tsunami isn't this forum comprised of officers and professionals in the field that don't prey off the worst thing that can happen to a officer in the field?

I guess I have serious problem with the term "more insight to how tragic" I don't know that you can get more tragic or clear then what happened, and don't understand how a audio clip would make it any more clear (in this particular case as I have the 'facts') IMO very sadly an officer was killed, in a pathetic matter by a horrible person. Releasing more audio only makes more of a spectral for the media there is media on this forum I bet every one would love the scoop of the disp audio before the PD released to to the media.

dont get me wrong im not downplaying that the media should not make a big deal out of it for the sake of the issue. but artifacts such as this audio I don't understand to anything but selling to the wolves?

/respectfully I will continue to read this thread and read a rebuttal/reply but after that we should take to PM as to avoid making a mess of this issue on this thread. or just starting a new topic for the debate.

<respect>

I agree with Spud 150%. As the son of a former Deputy of the local Sheriff's office who committed suicide while not on duty but still as a deputy, I was extremely upset to open the newspaper the next day and see that the @$%^$ newspaper had to put in an article about it.

The newspaper nor the public knew none of the extenuating circumstances surrounding his suicide and my family felt it was none of their business.

Now, I do realize that this situation is a little different and until it's a member of your family or your husband or father you will want to hear the radio traffic. After my dad died, the last thing I wanted to do was listen to the scanner and especially the Sheriff's Office knowing that I wouldn't ever hear him on there ever again.

As scanner enthusiasts we desire to hear the juciest stuff on the scanner. We want to hear the shootings and bank robberies and 5 alarm fires and tsunamis. But please, remember the family and how they feel in this situation or how you would feel if it was your husband, brother or father.

</respect>

<soap box>

I hope and pray to god that they catch the $%^#$%^ bastards that felt it was necessary to shoot that cop. I hope to god that they get what they so justly deserve. I can imagine how the family feels and my heart goes out to them. My prayers are also with them.

This incident is one of the top two worst scenarios any veteran LEO could face during their career.
Ofc Sweeney responded with her training.
Can't imagine what's she's feeling now, I hope she stays with SPD.

Clipped from Seattle times:

0:00 Sweeney: Shots fired, north on Yesler!

0:06 Dispatcher: Is there a unit calling radio?

0:15 Officer: Charlie 24, I believe she said I-5 north of Yesler.

0:19 Dispatcher: 3 George 13?

0:23 Sweeney: [garble]

0:24 Dispatcher: 3 George 13?

0:30 Dispatcher: I map George 13 — I show her at 29 and East Yesler Way, if units could start that way.

0:37 Sweeney: Help me. Shots are fired!

0:42 Sweeney: My partner's dead!

0:43 Dispatcher: I need units to 29 and East Yesler.

0:47 Officer: Edward 32's on his way.

1:00 Officer: 3 George en route.

1:08 Sweeney: Help me.

1:12 Dispatcher: Help the officer 29 and East Yesler.

1:24 Sweeney: I need medical.

1:38 Officer: George 31 arriving.

2:01 Officer: George 33, we've got officer down. 29 and Yesler — we need more u-, uh, we need Fire here now.

2:06 Dispatcher: Fire's on the way.

This call must have sucked for everyone involved.

Wow, Those dispatchers did a hell of a good job. The guardian 1 air plane was dispatched shortly there after. I hope they catch the guy. When was the memorial parade?
