Something big is going on up at Northgate. The address is 11300 3rd NE.

SPD is just now (as of 11:20 PM) making sure that all patrol officers have been relieved by SWAT team members. They have been directing personnel towards a safe entrance of the building, and away from certain unsafe exposures.

The North Precinct dispatcher had all units involved in the "3rd NE" incident switch to Tac 3, which I'd never heard used before. They apparently opened that channel just for this incident. Now they're all switching to something called "State Ops 5." I'll have to try to figure out how to listen to that.

One officer asked dispatch if a PIO (Public Information Officer?) was responding, and dispatch replied that they had been given a "heads up," but had not been asked to respond yet. The officer replied that media was swarming all over the place.

Anybody know what's going on up there??

At 11:56 PM an SPD unit verified to dispatch that a suspect was in custody related to the Northgate area incident, and said that the SWAT team had cleared the building. I guess I'll hear more on the morning news!

If you hear anything before I do, please share!

For State Ops 5, they probably were referring to 867.6375. Simplex or repeated, depending on which source you're looking at.

Thanks for the info, Atomic Taco. If I knew my way around my scanner well enough to scan both trunked and non-trunked channels, I would definitely plug that freq in. Sadly, I suck. Especially under pressure. ;-(

I never did hear a thing about this incident on the news. If anyone hears anything, please post!

Region 43 (Washington State), which establishes the STATEOPS channnels and controls the useage states:

"Fixed base stations and fixed mobile relay stations are prohibited on these Tactical Channels. Temporary portable mobile relay stations with the minimum required power shall be permitted, except for Priority 4 usage."

So, except in special circumstances, these channels are to be used in the simplex mode.

I heard an announcement on 40240 Valley Com Public Safety that day to all dispatchers that it was a training exercise and they would be using State Ops 5, low power,non-repeater.

Really? That's interesting. Well that would explain why it never made the news!

Thanks!
