Attempted kidnapper on loose near Lynden

An attempted kidnapping suspect is on the loose near Lynden, and deputies want the public’s help to find him.

Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo says a woman was jogging near Abbott and Thiel Roads south of Lynden today when the man tried to kidnap her.

The man they’re looking for is described as Hispanic, in his 20s, driving a beat-up maroon-color Dodge van with tinted windows.

Anyone with information should call 9-1-1.

UPDATE:

A source tells KGMI law enforcement is canvassing rural neighborhoods south of Lynden and asking residents to stay inside.

The Lynden Tribune reports authorities have stopped vans in the area and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter was taking part in the search.
