I'm wondering if anyone else has run across the re-transmission of the WUG24 NOAA weather broadcast on 1520KHz in the AM broadcast band in the Everett, WA area.

During daylight hours it can be heard on any decent AM radio anywhere in the city of Everett and, in some places, as far north as Marysville. At night, one needs to be within a mile or two of the source because of competition from incoming skywave.

I tracked the source of the transmission to the I-5/SR-526/SR-527 interchange. I discovered this signal a couple weeks ago and it has been there continuously for at least that long. The NOAA signal is being rebroadcast in real time (i.e., without any delay). The WUG24 id is not being suppressed and the "station" doing the re-transmission does not identify.

This is just about the strangest rogue transmission I have ever run across. Does anyone out there know anything about this?

Eric, AD7BF

Interesting ! I thought most of those WSDOT AM transmitters took their audio from an infinite-loop DVR and remotely updated the messages by calling a cellphone which is somehow integrated into the unit. Perhaps someone found an old RatShack "Weathercube" radio and decided to put it back to good use.
