Post subject:  Chino Police in California
Hello all,

I'm new to this radio stuff and have a few questions.

1. Can you reccomend a hand held scanner I can use to listen to Chino Police Department in California?

2. Is their frequency available to the public? As in its not encrypted.

3. Does anyone know where I can get their current frequency?

I'm a fellow Police Officer, and I was told our channels are encrypted at my station. They told me it was harder to find scanners to listen to our frequency. I was wondering if that was true, if all PD's were going to that type of radio. I currently live in the Chino area and there was some interesting incidents going on in our neighborhood. I wanted to get a scanner so I can be aware of anything going on during big incidents in my area.

As far as I know Chino PD has been encrypted for some time. CLETS/State DOJ is pushing remaining agencies to go encrypted this year. The few agencies left who don't go encrypted with their radios will be moving a lot of their traffic to encrypted MDT's.

You're a police officer and don't have an assigned portable?

Nothing is impossible but it's as close to impossible as you can get...

I have an assigned portable, but I work in Los Angeles County. I only have the Surrounding agencies on that portable. I dont have every single agencie on there.... FYI
