No, I am not talking about body odor. Or maybe I am? Does anyone know what the initials B.O. stand for when referring to something that does not work like: Heading to the precinct with a BO car, computer, etc. Or tried calling back but the number is BO. |

It's always fun to find out what these mean. Although, some of the fun lies in coming up with similar and equally appropriate explanations. I always heard NFG in the military, but we always thought it stood for No F****** Good. Thanks Sean for the answers, you are full of them! Tony |

You are correct on NFG. When I was in the Navy, we wrote NFG on tags on electronic "black boxes" to indicate they needed to be fixed. During one inspection, the inspecting officer asked me what "NFG" stood for. He was sure he had me until I blurted out "non-functional gear." He complimented me on my fast thinking and ended the inspection- we passed. I've used the definition in polite company ever since. BTW- I saw an artical in the paper some time back where the reporter asked an FAA person why an orange cockpit voice recorder was called a "black box" and he replied he thought it was because they came out of the aircraft wreck charred!!
