Because of all the different digital formats and now more and more people using encryption formats on radio, is radio listening dead? I know the military will always have and has had for years different forms of encryption for their radios. But now police, fire, and more and using encryption. Then don't get me on all the different digital formats that are out there and still popping up. I have to buy the latest and greatest scanner just to get a new digital format. The problem I see is my money coming in can't keep up the the new technology coming out. Just so I can listen to some frequencies. What do you all think about the encryption and digital formats war? |

What area do you live in, most areas in Washington State at this time I dont think that... encryption is a big deal but it could be it just depends on your area. for me if I want more scanner toys I just put in some overtime at work. |

No I don't think the hobby is dead, just changing. I approach the hobby from an analytical point of view so the use of digital; / encrypted comms does not to a large extent change what I do. |

It would certainly die if I chose to place the scanner in the back of my car. Maybe a record player might be useful back there as well. |

It's pretty easy to monitor because calls are not wall to wall but are pretty frequent. (10-20/hr. during prime time). I work in a profession where I have met quite a few members of the general public so I kinda know "who's who in the zoo". |
